Festival Check-in

The festival check-in table is located in the lobby of the Atrium building outside the Merchants Corner (Nakiska Ballroom). Please have photo ID ready to pick up your festival badge, Program Book, and Quick Guide. The check-in table opens on the festival Friday ~11 AM and remains open during daytime hours Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If there is a line-up and you need to be at a festival session, please attend your session and return to the check-in table for your materials at your earliest convenience. Festival 2019 registration will be available at the check-in table on Sunday.
If you are staying at the hotel, be sure to ask for breakfast coupons when you check in. $10 for a hot breakfast buffet!

Still looking to Transfer Your Pass or Banquet Ticket?

We have been processing transfers for the past few days and will continue to do so until the end of July. If you can no longer attend the festival, let us know so we can transfer your pass. Click here: Cancel 2018

Public Events

If you cannot find a pass for this year's festival, we do have some events that do not require one.

1. Festival Guest readings. This year's festival guests
- Tasha Alexander, Peter V. Brett, Andrew Grant, Harold Johnson, Erin Lindsey, Arthur Slade, & Sam Morgan - will be reading at the Fish Creek Public Library on Thursday Aug 9th from 7-9 pm. They will also be reading at the Delta Calgary South Hotel on Friday Aug 10th  from 1-3 pm in the Bonavista Ballroom (Tower Building).

2. Autograph Session. Our festival guests joined by 50+ attending authors will be signing books on Saturday Aug 11th from 8-10 pm in the Bonavista Ballroom (Tower Building).

3. Saturday Night Rapid Readings by attending authors. Sat August 11th from 7-10 PM in the Fireside Room (Tower Building).

4. Merchants Corner. Books by our festival guests and attending authors and publishers are available all weekend during daytime hours in our Merchant Room located in the Nakiska Ballroom (Atrium Building).

5. Hidden Art Show. Works of art created by attending artists are available for viewing and purchase all weekend during daytime hours in our Hidden Art Show located in the Lake Louise room (Atrium Building, 2nd floor).

When Words Collide is a 100% volunteer-run festival. Our organizers work throughout the year to make the festival possible, but we also need volunteers during the festival to make things run smoothly. Check out details at:

Advance Signup Events

The Advance Signup sheet has been updated. We can still accept signups for the next week or so. After that you will need to look for availability during the festival. Space is currently available in many sessions, including the Saturday Night Rapid Readings (published works by attending authors).

Shared Author Table

Authors attending WWC who have books for sale not available elsewhere in the Merchants' Corner are welcome to join the IFWA-sponsored cooperative booksellers' table. Bring a maximum of 3 titles to the IFWA table on Friday (or when you arrive) and sign up to man the table for an hour (or more) over the weekend. Display materials (stands, card cases, etc.) are in short supply; if you have your own, bring them! During your hour you will sell all books at the table, and you can do signings as well. Contact person is the same as previous years. If you don't have that information, contact us and we'll put you in touch.
The Hidden Art Show

We are building a great line-up for WWC's first ever Hidden Art Show! The show is hidden away in the Lake Louise room on the 2nd floor of the Atrium building. Come visit, be inspired, and perhaps find a piece of art begging to go home with you. If you are an artist interested in participating in the future, please contact us to be added to our Art Show contact list.

Journey Through the Ages Banquet

Roman Centurions. Japanese Samurai. British Druids. Our Saturday evening banquet will have a Journey Through the Ages theme. Dress from any period is welcome, but not required. Banquet tickets may be purchased at time of registration or separately using the same form.
Note: The banquet is now sold out. e-mail us to add your name to the waiting list.


Festival Hospitality

The festival has booked the private room and patio of Boomtown Pub Saturday & Sunday afternoon 12-5 PM. Passholders are welcome to drop in for a light appetizer and coffee or soda. Alcohol and meals may also be ordered from the pub.

Voting for the 2018 Aurora Awards Begins on July 28th
This year’s Aurora Awards ballot has been announced and When Words Collide is up for the Best Fan Organizational award! Thank you to everyone who nominated our festival. To see the full ballot visit:
The voters package containing digital versions of most of this year's finalists is available for download for CSFFA (Canadian Science Fiction & Fantasy Association) members. Voting for the awards opens on July 28th.and closes at 11:59 pm EDT on September 8th, 2018.

Winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony held during the weekend of Oct 5-7 in Richmond BC at VCON
