2021 Short Video Contest Deadline Is February 1

Check the club website for more details.

Since the continuing pandemic precludes holding our Annual Awards Banquet in February, the Video Club's 2021 Short Video Contest will be held online via Zoom at our monthly General Meeting on Thursday, February 18, at 7 pm. Contest entries will be screened, and participating club members will vote to select the winners

The deadline to submit a 4-minute, member-created video in the contest is Monday, February 1. Directions for submitting entries will be provided soon

The one-hour 2020 Goldie Awards Banquet video can be viewed on our website (scroll down to video). All eight contest entries, which were screened February 3, 2020 at our 10th Annual Goldies Awards Banquet, are included in the video. More past contest videos can be accessed on the club's YouTube channel Awards Banquet playlist.

VideoStudio Users: Would You Attend A Monthly Corel Forum?

Dr. Tom Nash reports encouraging success in teaching his beginning video editing class with Corel VideoStudio remotely on Zoom for the first time. Fifteen people enrolled during September in the free, three-session series -- probably the Video Club's most essential class for PC users – prompting Tom to ask whether VideoStudio users would be interested in attending a monthly VideoStudio Forum via Zoom. (“Forums” are the Video Club's special interest groups. Led by a facilitator, a Forum holds regular meetings focused on a one topic or activity.)
These sessions, or workshops, would cover specific aspects of editing in VideoStudio and would also address user questions. If you'd like to be involved, please contact Tom at or 714 381-0781.

When Can We Get Back into the Lab and Studio?

FYI – In his September 17 General Meeting presentation, Chuck Holland, VMS Information Technology Director, stated that current estimates expect Village facilities to remain closed to residents because of COVID-19 until at least the end of the first quarter of 2021.

During this time, we do not have access to our equipment since it is owned by the Golden Rain Foundation (GRF). GRF policy is that no GRF equipment may be removed from the premises during the shutdown. This has posed a problem for on-going projects like our new “Beyond the Gates” TV series, and members have been using their own equipment.

VMS Information Technology Director Chuck Holland's September 17 General Meeting presentation, “Village Technology Updates,” is available on the club website (and on our YouTube channel) for anyone who missed this informative Zoom program. Chuck covered a wide range of resident services, explaining how they are being handled during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Submit A Video to “Video Club Spotlight” on Village TV

The Video Club's monthly half-hour anthology series on Village Television, "Video Club Spotlight" (Sundays at 6 pm), features short videos by club members. “Discovering Laguna Woods,” “Beyond the Gates” Offer New Topics in October

Discovering Laguna Woods
Club member Cyndee Whitney, who hosts the monthly TV series “Discovering Laguna Woods” (produced by Village Television), welcomes Irvine-based psychotherapist Eileen S. Lenson, MSW, ACSW, to her October broadcast, which will air Wednesdays and Sundays at 9:30 am. This show, Cyndee reports, may become the basis for a new Village TV series featuring Lenson, author of the book, Overcoming Adversity: Conquering Life's Challenges. More about about Eileen Lenson on our website.
Beyond the Gates
Struggling to capture video in the orange light from smoke-clouded skies, camera operator Jack Crawbuck was part of a two-day September  “Beyond the Gates” shoot in San Clemente. The coastal city is the topic of October’s 30-minute episode of “Beyond the Gates” (produced by Video One Productions), scheduled to air Wednesdays at 11 am. The series takes viewers to local sites of interest. More about about the October program on our website.
San Juan Capistrano will be the series' destination in November. The team is looking for volunteers with local travel ideas to serve as segment producers and set up interviews for future shows. Please contact Suzanne Savlov at or 949-859-7035.
