4-Week Cinematic Audio Workshop Starts This Wednesday

What's in it for you?

Help build the Video Club's audio production capabilities by becoming part of our “audio team” (so essential on every shoot). Or just learn techniques to improve the sound in your own videos. Or, ideally, do both!

Dr. Tom Nash's new workshop will emphasize recording audio outside the studio. The 4 week course begins this Wednesday (April 13, 2022) and will meet each week (no class on May 4) from 10-11:30 am in the Video Studio, between Clubhouse 2 and the pool. Learn about audio recording goals, microphone types, digital recording standards, how to avoid audio problems, and more.

Taking the full series is highly recommended. The COST is $20 for 4 sessions (club members) or $5 per session, payable in class (cash or check). Non-members pay an additional $15 for residents and $20 for non-residents, which includes 2022 club membership. To enroll or for more information, contact Dr. Tom Nash, tomnash36@gmail.com.

Attention, Writers! Call for Scripts – Deadline Is June 24

The Video Club is seeking an original script for a 10-to-20-minute drama (may be comedy, etc.). It should be fully scripted and using actors. It will be produced by the club's Video One Productions team during 2022 (pre-production in summer, shooting in early fall, post-production in later fall) for broadcast on Village Television, possible submission to film festivals, later streaming on YouTube, and other distribution.

Submission is open to residents of Laguna Woods Village and members or past members of Village clubs registered with the Village Management Services Recreation Department. The contest deadline is Friday, June 24, 2022.

This will be the fourth film in the Video Club's annual Short Dramatic Film series. Earlier films were “Write It Down” (2019), “What? You, Too?” (2021), and “The Hole in One” (2022).

Club Member Bob Matonti to Star in “Cafe Murder” April 21 & 22

There’s still time to buy a ticket to "Cafe Murder” – the DEADliest show in town – and see Video Club member Bob Matonti star as the Defective Detective. Bob and fellow cast member Paul Kratzer (the Maitre'D) visited Village Television's “This Day” on April 4 and never broke character in their interview with Lisa Hart. Here’s the link if you missed the live show: https://youtu.be/zplFYj51BDg .

The Theatre Guild invites you along for a meal and a murder mystery, performed in the round in Clubhouse 5, to help solve the offing of pain-in-the-neck diner Rosemary at the scene of the crime. Two performances are scheduled: dinner Thursday, April 21 (doors open at 5:30 pm), and lunch Friday, April 22 (doors open at 11:30 am).

"You can buy tickets on line or by mail. The food's going to be great, and the show is campy and fun,” says Theatre Guild spokesperson Barbara Powell – a member of both the cast and crew of the Video Club's upcoming Short Dramatic Film, “The Hole in One.” Cost is $40 per person and $400 per table of 10. Go to www.TheatreGuildLW.com.
