Allen Fortson Memorial Service Set for Saturday, April 30

Nicole Lindsey, daughter of club member Allen Fortson who passed away in February, has extended the following invitation to the club:

"Here are the arrangements for Dad's memorial: In Loving Memory of Bevley “Allen” Fortson, 1942 – 2016.  Please join us for a Memorial Service to honor Allen’s Life on Saturday, April 30th at 10:30 a.m. at Laguna Woods Clubhouse One, Dining Room Three, 24232 Calle Aragon, Laguna Woods, CA 92637."

Nicole asked Club President Steve Carman for a copy of her father's "Happy Video" to show at the Memorial. Allen and his friends produced this video in 2014, showing members of Village clubs and individual residents dancing to Pharrell Williams' popular "Happy Song." It will be especially meaningful to remember Allen through this joyful project

"Multi-Camera Studio Production" Class Resumes Saturday, April 16

The three remaining Saturday meetings for the new class, "Multi-Camera Studio Production," have been rescheduled to April 16, 23, and 30 from 10 am to noon in the Video Studio, taught by Tom Nash. Thus, there's still time to take advantage of this opportunity to learn to use the Video Club's new switcher, which combines multiple cameras and other video sources in real time during shooting. Topics to be covered are shooting a short interview (April 16), shooting a commercial (April 23), and shooting green screen, where the switcher replaces a green background with still photos or video (April 30).

The April 30 class will be held a little later in the day (time TBA) so that those who knew Allen Fortson can attend his Memorial Service that morning

Welcome back from Cypress, Tom!

Tom Nash has been in Cypress, Istanbul, and perhaps elsewhere in the Middle East recently in his role as a volunteer leader for a Christian communications organization. Can't wait to hear about his travels!

If you decide to join the "Multi-Camera Studio Production" class, please come to the April 16 meeting ready to direct a 2-minute video where you will interview a guest of your choice (or another class member). The rest of the class will assume the duties of crew members, serving as Floor Manager, Switcher Operator, Audio Operator, and Camera Operator(s) to capture the video you're directing. Then you'll do the same for them. This kind of "team-building" can open many new opportunities for the Video Club, as well as for your personal video projects.

Cost is $5 per person per session for members. Non-members will be charged an additional one-time $10 membership fee.  Pre-enrollment is not required. For information, contact Tom at tom@tomnash.net, 714-381-0781.  Click here for flier.

WANNA CARPOOL AND ATTEND?
Mobile Film Festival Set for April 30-May 1 in San Diego

Smartphones are more popular than ever for making videos. Find out all about this exciting format at the 5th Annual International Mobile Film Festival, Saturday and Sunday, April 30 and May 1, in San Diego. The event is produced by Susy Botello, who spoke to the Video Club on smartphone filmmaking at a 2014 General Meeting. Last year, four club members, Barbel Dagostino, Lisa Kirsoff, Lucy Parker, and Susie Stockholm, attended one day of the festival (Saturday) and had a great time. Lucy's video about their visit is on our club YouTube channel.

Cost this year for seniors 65 and over is $11.54 ($22.09 for adults aged 18-64). The location is Pyramid Innovation Center, 7310 Miramar Road, San Diego, CA 92126.

This year, unfortunately, the festival conflicts with two Video Club events on Saturday (Allen Fortson's Memorial Service and the last meeting of the "Multi-Camera Studio Production" class). Lucy is looking into the festival's Sunday schedule and may gather a group from the club to attend that day. If you're interested, please contact her at lvparker@gmail.com, 949-456-4657.
