Image of Golden Gate Bridge ImageRegistration will open April 3rd for the 2017 MDF Annual Conference. The conference will gather more than 400 families, clinicians, researchers, industry representatives and caregivers working to improve the lives of people living with myotonic dystrophy.

The conference takes place Friday, September 8, 2017, through Saturday, September 9, 2017, in San Francisco, CA, in conjunction with IDMC-11, the global DM research conference.

This is an event not to be missed!

MDF Statement Regarding the American Health Care Act


Image of the U.S. CapitolRepublican members of the U.S. House of Representatives’ Committee on Ways and Means and the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce introduced legislation, entitled the American Health Care Act (AHCA), that would repeal and/or replace major parts of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

MDF has developed a formal response to this proposed legislation. Please read our statement to Congress, and consider contacting your congressional representatives to protect access to quality health insurance for people living with DM.

Using Gene Editing to Correct DM


Image of DNA The CRISPR/Cas system, a new, potentially revolutionary technology, may allow development of a drug for DM that can correct a patient's DNA by selectively removing the expanded CTG and CCTG repeats in DM1 and DM2, respectively.

Improving Clinical Trials for DM Therapies


Thurman Wheeler Pictured in LabWhen Dr. Thurman Wheeler, a grant recipient funded through a Wyck Foundation-MDF partnership, was a resident in neurology, he remembers how a senior physician told him that myotonic dystrophy would probably be one of the most difficult diseases to treat because it involves so many body systems.

But thanks to unprecedented advances in laboratory and clinical research since then, "it looks like it might turn out to be fairly straightforward," Dr. Wheeler says.
