President's Message

It has been a while since the Alberta Orff Chapter has connected and so much in our world has changed since we were last together. As your Alberta Orff Chapter President, I was taking time to adapt to the "new normal", to process everything going on in our world, and to grieve many events lost in these past two months. I am trusting that at this point many of you have had time to adapt to our new distance teaching and that you are finding your place in this new forum. Please read on for the latest news from the Alberta Orff Chapter and Carl Orff Canada.

Free Workshops with Doug Goodkin!

We know that there is no substitute for our long anticipated Vision 2020 National conference, however, we do have a wonderful learning opportunity scheduled for Carl Orff Canada members to keep you connected with your music colleagues this spring.

Members may join in a three part FREE workshop series with Doug Goodkin! The first session took place Saturday May 2nd, but the great news is if you missed it you may still view the session under the MEMBERS ONLY section on the COC website. This was a wonderful way to connect with Orff educators across Canada and master teacher Doug himself! It is not too late to register for the next 2 workshops, as each workshop has entirely new content!

Upcoming Events!

Looking ahead... Although there are still many unanswered questions regarding how our upcoming school year will look, the Alberta Orff Chapter will still be here to support music and dance educators across the province. We are going ahead and planning our three chapter workshops and our FREE Taste of Orff workshop, keeping in mind that we may have to adapt to unknown circumstances in the fall.

Our fall session will kick off with the popular "Taste of Orff" mini-session with Diane Shieron. We are thrilled that Indigenous singer, songwriter and educator Sherryl Sewapagaham will join us on Saturday, September 26th for our first workshop of the year.

In other "Orff" news...
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many Orff levels courses have been cancelled across Canada. If you applied for the Gunild Keetman Fund, your application will be kept on file until 2021 when Orff levels courses are up and running again. Applications for the Alberta Orff Chapter President's Award are not being accepted this year. Scholarships will be available when Orff levels courses resume in 2021.
Experience to consider:
St. Thomas University has a Summers only Masters program and they have added several 1 and 2 credit on-line courses for their students and anyone else interested. This is a unique opportunity/offering brought about by the pandemic. Details or inquiries can be sent to: Bev Johnson,
