Fall Conference Closing Keynote Speaker Announced

On Thursday, October 1, ALDA is pleased to welcome former Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson to address attendees at our virtual fall Senior Management Conference. Secretary Paulson will participate in a Q&A focused on his management of the 2008 financial crisis and  the parallels to the current climate, his expertise on China and relations moving forward, his time as President & CEO of Goldman Sachs, potential socio-economic impacts of the upcoming election, and more. There is no cost for ALDA members to attend this and other conference sessions. Registration information will be shared next week.
ALDA Initiatives on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Like our members, ALDA takes the issues of diversity, equity & inclusion very seriously. Racism and intolerance have no place in the ALDA community, the scientific community, or any community. While this topic has been frequently discussed amongst leadership, we are committed to accelerating our efforts in these areas. To that end, ALDA is immediately moving forward with multiple initiatives.

First, the ALDA Board of Directors has established a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Task Force. The primary goals of the group will be to make recommendations to the board regarding diversity, equity & inclusion at the board level and at ALDA events, as well as identifying ways we can help our members address these issues moving forward. This group will also be formalizing ALDA’s policies & statements in these areas. The first meeting will take place this month.

Additionally, we will be offering educational & collaborative activities to members, starting with a Senior Executive Roundtable dedicated to this topic taking place on July 28. More information below.

And there is much more to come. ALDA understands that achieving equity and inclusion is an ongoing process and will require persistence and a true commitment from ALDA leadership, current and future. These efforts will be engrained in our strategy and mission moving forward. We look forward to continuing this dialogue and sharing progress and updates with our member community.
ALDA to Host Senior Executive Roundtable on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

ALDA is excited to host another Senior Executive webinar this month, “Improving Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: A Senior Executive Roundtable.”  On Thursday, July 28 at 11 am Eastern, join key industry executives as they discuss navigating the current social & political landscape surrounding race and the short and long-term effects on their companies & our industry.

  • Brad Gray, President & CEO of NanoString Technologies
  • Patrick Kaltenbach, Executive Vice President & President of Life Sciences, BD
  • Emily Leproust, CEO, Twist Bioscience

ALDA is Bringing the Networking to You

We recognize that a primary value-driver for ALDA is the networking. While we can’t get together in-person as a large group this year, that doesn’t mean we can’t network. Through the support and commitment of the ALDA Board of Directors, we are extremely excited to offer Board-Hosted Networking opportunities to our members. These events will take on two forms; one, for those members who live and work in higher member company populated areas, we will have in-person small-group networking opportunities available. For those in the Bay area, Boston, San Diego, and Zurich, ALDA board members will be hosting in-person small-group activities including golf outings, clam bakes, outdoor activities such as hiking, dinners, and ALDA Conference viewing parties. All events will serve as an opportunity to get to know each other on a professional and personal level, just like you would at an ALDA Conference.

For those who don’t live in those areas, board members will also be hosting small-group virtual happy hours and virtual topical sessions, focused on subjects such as taking a company public, values-based leadership, small panel discussions with customers, as well as wine & whiskey tastings—with the whiskey and wine sent to you in advance—and more.

More information on these activities is available HERE. Look for additional events on this page in the coming months.

These activities come at no additional cost to ALDA members; we appreciate your support and partnership as we all pivot and adapt and find new ways to bring value.

Fall Conference Schedule and Agenda is Set

The Fall Senior Management Conference is going virtual! Over the course of several weeks, ALDA members will receive the same great content they have come to expect from ALDA events. The topical focus for the conference will be “Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Its Implications and Opportunities for ALDA Members.”

AI in its many forms is becoming a transformative tool for many businesses and organizations. From better chatbots for customer service to data analytics to making predictive recommendations, AI is perceived as an essential means to increase operations performance and productivity, and improve informed strategic decision making.

Starting with MIT’s Andrew McAfee‘s lead-off presentation, our topical program will offer valuable insights on AI and its uses, especially in business and the life sciences, future prospects, and why AI has important implications and opportunities for members of ALDA and for their customers and users.

Other speakers will include QuantumBlack (a McKinsey company), a Broad Institute scientist and researcher, and the Chief Science Officer of Tempus, Kevin White.

We will be sharing registration information next week.
