MIT’s Andrew McAfee Joins Spring Meeting on AI

Andrew McAfee, Co-Director of the Initiative on the Digital Economy and a Principal Research Scientist at the MIT Sloan School of Management, will speak at ALDA’s 2020 Spring Senior Executives Meeting.
Dr. McAfee will lead off our topical program on Artificial Intelligence with an introduction to AI, an assessment of where it is today, what’s real and what’s hype, and discuss how AI is being applied in businesses today and over the next 2-3 years, especially in the life sciences.
Dr. McAfee’s research at MIT investigates how information technology changes the way companies perform, organize themselves, and compete. At a higher level, his work also focuses on how computerization affects competition, society, the economy, and the workforce.
In addition to having numerous papers published, McAfee also writes a widely read blog, which is at times one of the 10,000 most popular in the world. He is the author or co-author of more than 100 articles, case studies and other materials for students and teachers of technology.
Prior to joining MIT Sloan, McAfee was a professor at Harvard Business School. He has also served as a fellow at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard Law School.
Dr. McAfee received his doctorate from Harvard Business School and completed two Master of Science and two Bachelor of Science degrees at MIT. He speaks to both academic and industry audiences and has taught in executive education programs around the world.
San Francisco Bay Area Dinner Set for March 18
Stephen Quake of Stanford and Chan Zuckerberg Biohub to Speak

Dr. Stephen Quake, Professor of Bioengineering and Applied Physics at Stanford and Co-President of Chan Zuckerberg Biohub, will be the featured guest speaker at this year’s ALDA’s annual dinner for senior executives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
This year’s dinner will be held on Wednesday, March 18 at the Rosewood Sand Hill Hotel in Menlo Park, California
Dr. Stephen Quake’s research is at the nexus of biology, physics and technology development. He has invented many measurement tools for biology, including new DNA sequencing technologies that have enabled rapid analysis of the human genome and microfluidic automation that allows scientists to efficiently isolate individual cells and decipher their genetic code.
Dr. Quake is also well known for his work inventing new diagnostic tools, including the first non-invasive prenatal test for Down syndrome and other aneuploidies. His innovations have helped to radically accelerate the pace of biology and have made medicine safer by replacing invasive biopsies with simple blood tests.
In addition to hearing an informative presentation, the March 18 dinner presents an easy and informal opportunity to network with the senior leadership of other members of ALDA outside of our semi-annual meetings, and to meet executives new to ALDA. It’s also an opportunity to bring one-two of your executive team that may not regularly attend our semi-annual meetings.

The details of the dinner are:

Date:  Wednesday, March 18, 2020
Time:  6:00 to about 9:00 PM
Location:  Rosewood Sand Hill, 2825 Sand Hill Rd., Menlo Park, CA

The 2020 survey will cover a wide range of jobs including industry-specific positions in sales, service and R&D. Actual compensation data on all elements of the employee pay package will be reported to help your company analyze its competitive position and compensation mix from a total compensation perspective.
Participating ALDA companies will receive three reports: 1) an all-participants report, 2) a customized peer group report, and 3) an ALDA-only report, in addition to a full year of 24/7 access to CHiPs online with free on-demand features.
