December 2016 Newsletter
Our Open House was a HUGE success as over 160 community members came out to see the progress and learn about the program that Hope's Path has put into place.  The home is all set for the holidays, however we are still awaiting approval by the Fire Marshall so our occupancy permit can be granted and we can have our young adult MOVE IN!!  THANK YOU to all of those who have been so supportive of our 3 year long mission to open Hope's Path!  A special "Thank You" to the Sam Houston State University students and interns who have worked tirelessly this past semester. Your dedication and talents made the Open House such a fun and educational experience for everyone.
Marathon Fundraiser
This was Team Baby Step’s 5th year to run the Chosen Marathon in New Braunfels Texas. Previous years have been run as a fundraiser to ease the financial burden of expenses as Adam and Katti Henderson journeyed to build their family through the blessing of adoption. This year, since they are not currently in the process of adopting, The Henderson’s wanted to build their team to race and support a cause that stands in the gap for children and young adults who need it most. After hearing Terri Jaggers speak at their home church, (Northside Christian Church); they knew without a doubt that Hope’s Path would be that cause. On November 19, 2016 over a dozen runners on Team Baby Steps traveled to the Hill Country to run the Chosen Marathon in support of Hope’s Path. A percentage of all registration fees goes directly to the cause, not to mention almost $1,500 in pledge support the team raised! It was the perfect day to run! 10 miles of the 13.1 mile course are along the beautiful Guadalupe River! Katti reflects on her experience training for the race as she remarks, “Every mile has meaning when you’re running for another.”
Fostering Hope Texas Summit
We are very grateful to have been able to participate in Orphan Care Solutions' 4th Annual Fostering Hope Texas Summit! The goal of this event was to bring all of the various organizations that serve in the foster care industry together so the faith based community could attend workshops and learn about the ones they feel God is leading them to partner/engage in service with.  The event was so enlightening and Hope's Path was given the opportunity to explain who we are, what our vision is, and how the community can help.

Brian Dunn, our President reports:
"Hope’s Path had an opportunity to lead a seminar on ‘Aging Out Initiatives’ at the Fostering Texas Summit on Saturday, November 19th.  There were probably around 40-50 people who came to learn more about how they could get involved.  It was exciting to have a chance to talk to a group from Magnolia Bible Church about how they could be involved as a church from hosting an open table to volunteering to maybe sponsoring one of our residents through prayer, finances, and life-skills training.  The presentation focused a lot on helping people understand the three pillars of our program: life skills development, open table Christian mentoring, and educational/career launch.  It also focused on helping them understand the four phases of our program: Needs assessment and Life-coaching plan, structured support, supportive independence, and independent and stable."

One of the best outcomes of participating in the Fostering Hope Texas Summit was the dozens of volunteers that signed up to become mentors!  We will be starting that class of mentor training on Saturday, December 10!  If you are interested in joining that effort, please contact Jeremiah.Belyeu@HopesPath.org.

Help for the Holidays: When Extended Families Come Together

"Holidays are a time for family and friends to gather and to celebrate. At its best, this time of year offers wonderful memories, time together and treasured traditions. For many of us, however, the holidays can bring up a lot of stress and conflict.

Are you worried about your child’s behavior over the holidays? Do you have a relative who criticizes your parenting style or decisions? Are you concerned about how to respond to your grandchild’s outbursts at a family event?

If you can relate to having stress during the holiday season, keep reading here for a few reminders before you head off to your next family gathering."
