Fresh start for the Parish Council

Some old, some familiar and some new faces gathered this week for the 1st meeting of the Parish Council following the (uncontested) election on May 8th.
Tim Baker was elected Chair and Marina Heum as Vice Chair, members wished to place on record their appreciation to those who have left the Parish Council.  A tough act to follow indeed. Tim paid tribute to Robert Wivell, Mark Yeadon, Brian Charlton and David Thomson who have served as Parish Councillors for an amazing 80 years between them and wished them all the very best.

Next Parish Council meeting is Monday 15th June 7.30pm in the Village Hall members of the public are always welcome.

What Now for The Crown Hotel?

After more than 3 years and thousands of ££’s spent, in a move that shocked many Tesco have withdrawn their application to convert this building into a Tesco Express, what a twist and what next ???
The Parish Council have contacted Enterprise Inns to ask about any future plans, they declined to comment.
What do you think should happen to The Crown Hotel?

The big debate

The Parish Council want’s to hear from you about the future of Stables Lane Field.
What would you like to see there? More trees and planted areas?  A MUGA (Multi Use Game area)?  Benches? A children’s play park? Another full size football pitch?Perhaps even a band stand? These are just some of the suggestions so far.  Have your say as the PC plan the future of this fantastic space in the heart of our village.

The Farmers Market

The future of the Farmers market which is held on the 2nd Friday of each month looks uncertain, traders tell us that poor sales may force them to cancel future markets in Boston Spa, the market has a wide variety of locally produced goods, it would be a great shame to lose it. Please support our local farmers and producers after all if we don’t use it, we lose it!

Next market Friday 12th June 9-12pm

Green Energy from the Wharfe

The hydro scheme feasibility study was completed in December 2014.  The report concluded that if the Environment Agency (EA) introduced the conditions they were suggesting then the scheme would not be financially viable.  As a result the Parish Council decided a Land Lease agreement with Hydrosense Renewables Ltd was the best way forward.  Solicitors have now been appointed to discuss terms for this agreement.
