This is Holy Week
These days leading up to Easter Day are the most important of the year.
Dear <<First Name>>,
Holy Week is the single most important week of the Christian year. Now the time of our salvation is at hand, and that means that this really is the most important week of our lives as Christians. So I invite you to take part in the services that lead up to Easter. It really is a time for a new start, a time to let go of the past and embrace a brand new future with the risen Jesus, who rose from the dead to bring abundant new life to you and me and all creation. This is our chance to follow Jesus right to the cross, and then to the empty tomb, and to literally have our feet washed along the way. Please come and join in!
The summit of the Church year is the Easter Triduum, these great three days from the evening of Maundy Thursday to the eve of Easter Day. Though chronologically three days, they are liturgically one day. They unfold for us the unity of Christ's Paschal, or Easter, mystery: Jesus’s Passion, death and resurrection. With Jesus’s disciples, we enter the upper room to celebrate the Passover. We accompany Jesus to keep a vigil watch at his agony in the Garden of Gethsemane. We follow him through the halls of judgment to his bitter Passion, journeying with Jesus on his way of sorrow to Calvary where he will die on a cross. We assist at his burial in the rock tomb. Then we wait in solemn vigil until he rises again, in our human flesh, glorious and immortal. This is the Easter Triduum.
So this is simply the most important time of year for Christians, and a great time to come to a service if perhaps you haven't been for a while. We meet on Maundy Thursday at 8.00pm, Good Friday at 2pm, and then Easter Eve at 7.30pm.
Easter Eve is the most vivid service of the whole year. It begins outside with the lighting of the new Easter fire and finishes with a Champagne reception! Then on Easter Day at 9.30am we'll be celebrating with great joy at our Family Festival Eucharist! Children are very welcome at every service. Please come and join in.
If you will be away from Prestwood over Holy Week and Easter, just type your postcode into A Church Near You to find services near where you are. Don't miss Easter: please come and join in!
May God give us grace to enter deeply into the mystery of Christ's suffering and love for us, and help us to celebrate Easter with joy beyond joy!
With every blessing,
