Estates, Facilities and Professional Services updates
Non Emergency Patient Transport: specifications to be standardised
LPP held workshops with both buyers and suppliers to discuss the issues in patient transport and how best to procure services in the future. The workshops provided useful insight into operational issues, and examples of how other organisations address them. Both groups agreed standard specifications and KPIs should be achievable to enhance the patient experience. LPP is now working with CCGs, DH, NHS Improvement and the CQC to seek guidance on central standards. For more information, please contact Edward James.

Biosimilars: how you can support savings of £20m+ for 2016/17

Clinical & Digital Information Systems update
Tender evaluations and supplier presentations have been underway this month. More than 70 tenders were received from would-be suppliers. The framework is expected to go live by 22nd November. For more information please contact Steve Dunkerley.
Agency staffing updates:
Ending reliance on medical locums
NHS Employers has published a useful guide to reducing reliance on medical locums, which your medical directors would find useful. You can access it here.
Agency rate caps: don't go off-framework, stand firm
1.    Ensure you only use agencies on an NHS Improvement-approved framework such as LPP's for your temporary staffing needs, ensuring that the rates agencies charge are framework rates
2.    Ensure you communicate that decision to all agencies you use, stating too that if they wish to continue being a supplier to your organisation, they will need to abide by the imposition of the soon-to-be-announced caps.

If you go 'off framework' and pay more than framework rates, that puts pressure on your neighbouring organisations which then have to pay more to fill their own vacancies. If every organisation holds firm, we can get a hold on pricing.
Corporate Services updates:
Lee Joseph to join LPP as Chief Operating Officer


Lee Joseph will be joining us as Chief Operating Officer in mid December. Lee brings a wide range of commercial and strategic skills across the public and private sectors. He has extensive experience of matrix business environments at blue chip companies including General Electric (GE), Unipart and JCB. His last role was as the Corporate Sourcing Director for Health Trust Europe. Lee takes over from Mick Corti, who has taken up the role of Director of the PPS cluster. Mick will continue on the LPP steering board as the PPS representative.
Members' e-catalogue and content management system update
The framework for the provision of an e-catalogue and sophisticated content management solution is now in stand still, and we anticipate go-live later in November. For more information please contact Nicola Atack.
Purchase Price Index and Benchmark tool update
The Business Intelligence team recently met with NHS Improvement to look at the new Purchase Price Index and Benchmark tool from Advise Inc. The tool has potential as a centralised analytics platform for the NHS but currently requires more development. LPP has been brought in to work closely with Advise Inc to support the development of the tool's functionality. Whilst this is underway we will continue to use the PI tool to provide detailed and robust analytics for all members. For more information please contact Rishi Rampersad.
