Optalysys demonstrates optical genome alignment at SC16

The Optalysys booth and talk at the supercomputing conference SC16 in Salt Lake City, Utah in November was very well received and productive generating lots of interest from a broad range of technology, life sciences, academic and public sector organisations.

The team had a stand in the Emerging Technologies section with a live demonstration of the Generation 4 system processing real genomic data and CEO Dr Nick New presented a talk on Optalysys technology.

See the video we produced for SC16 on YouTube. Thanks to everyone who came by to see us!
Optalysys named Game Changing startup by CB Insights
Optalysys is delighted to have been included in a report produced by the CB Insights group. We were named in their “Research Startups - Game Changers” report, as one of the top five Next-Gen Computing startups.
Optalysys accepted for demonstration at AGBT
We are very pleased to have had our application accepted for the Advances in Genome Biology and Technology (AGBT) Conference technology demonstration presentation. Only a handful of demonstrations are accepted at the conference so clearly this is a great opportunity to draw attention to the company and our technology. The AGBT is considered the leading genome science and technology conference where top global researchers, leaders and innovators meet to announce new discoveries, cutting edge breakthroughs and to collaborate. We will be attending in partnership with Earlham Institute.
GENESYS project update
Testing of the Generation 4 prototype performing bioinformatics sequence alignment is progressing well - verified by our project partners, the Earlham Institute.  Three of the five test sets have now been processed with accuracy results currently over 99%. Testing will continue over the coming weeks. Following this stage, there will be another iteration of the hardware through this project early next year which will be tested for performance and energy consumption.  This will form the basis of our first commercial product launching at the end of 2017.  Read more about this project.
EQUATE project update
We are now in the testing phase of our U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) funded project, led by our new developer Alex Macfaden. We  visited Washington DC on the 8th/9th December to attend a two day DARPA conference reporting on the project status and to discuss follow-on opportunities once this 13 month project completes next April.  This was an incredibly exciting meeting with a focus on solving big goals and making significant impact. We met with the other projects funded under the ACCESS program and some potential end-users from other agencies of the U.S. government.  The Optalysys presentation was very well received and generated strong interest. Read more about this project.
ESCAPE project update
Work is continuing on the design and development of a prototype system for this three year project led by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) to develop the next generation platform for numerical weather prediction.  Read more about this project.
