His Voice

“A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and among his own kin and in his own house.” (Mark 6:4)
Jesus startled his familiar audience with a seeming rebuke that no servant of God can receive honor among his own people. Jesus could do no mighty works in their midst because they were closed-minded and unbelieving towards him.  The people of Nazareth  despised his preaching because he was a mere workman, a carpenter, and a layman who had no formal training by a scholar or teacher and because of his undistinguished family background. If people have come together to hate and to refuse to understand, then they will see no other point of view than their own and they will refuse to love and accept others.
How do you treat those who seem disagreeable to you?

You Can Stop Assisted Suicide in CA if You Act Now!

score of organizations across the state know assisted suicide is bad for California. The bill, SB 128 (End of Life Option Act):

Sends the Wrong Message

Legalizing suicide for the terminally ill, while discouraging suicide for the rest of the population, teaches that the lives of the ill and disabled do not matter to our society.

Will Worsen Patient Care

Patients in other states, like Barbara Wagner in Oregon, are being denied treatment prescribed by their doctors, and instead offered drugs for assisted suicide.

Will Increase Non-Terminal Suicide Rates

Suicides Skyrocket: Oregon's suicide rate for non-terminal people increased 49% after assisted suicide became legal.
OneLife LA has been part of a tremendous amount of effort that has gone into halting the bill in the Assembly, but we need to press hard to keep it from passing. It is critical for you to call your legislator in the California Assembly to keep the bill from moving forward this legislative year.

Following are key action items and resources that would make a difference at this key moment in the fight against SB 128. Please share the following information as widely as possible with your respective ministries.

Supreme Court Ruling on Same Sex Marriage

How Should a Catholic Respond?

“But what about “same-sex” marriage? This ruling is so symbolic in a cry of Freedom of an oppressed people for justice, particularly as it relates to “Acceptance” – Not just about being gay, but the gay lifestyle being accepted and respected. We are called to bear witness to Truth and Justice, not as the world sees it but as God in Word and the Gospel of Jesus Christ do (in this, we say in faith, is salvation and right relationship with God and others). So how are we as Church to respond to this (keeping in mind loved ones who are gay)? This Fall, the Bishops Synod in Rome will help us address this. But for now … with confidence, I can say this…Respond In Truth and Faith! And with Love & Mercy!"
- Fr. Don Woznicki, St. Bruno Catholic Church

"Our society needs to hear the beautiful truth about the human person and God’s plan for creation — a plan that is centered in the family, in husbands and wives and children. This is still our duty. And we are called to carry out that duty with love and respect for everyone, with no exceptions and no excuses."
- Archbishop Jose H. Gomez, Archdiocese of Los Angeles

"Jesus Christ, with great love, taught unambiguously that from the beginning marriage is the lifelong union of one man and one woman. As Catholic bishops, we follow our Lord and will continue to teach and to act according to this truth... I call upon all people of good will to join us in proclaiming the goodness, truth, and beauty of marriage as rightly understood for millennia, and I ask all in positions of power and authority to respect the God-given freedom to seek, live by, and bear witness to the truth."
- Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz, President of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops
