His Voice

"While they were eating, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, gave it to them, and said, 'Take it; this is my body.' Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. (Matthew 28:19)
Jesus chose the time of Passover to fulfill what he had announced earlier at Capernaum - giving his disciples his body and his blood. Passover was the most significant meal for Jesus and the most important occasion of his breaking of bread. In this meal Jesus identifies the bread as his body and the cup as his blood. When the Lord Jesus commands his disciples to eat his flesh and drink his blood, he invites us to take his life into the very center of our being.
Do you appreciate the gift of Christ's Body and Blood made available to us in Holy Communion?

Father's Day

Sunday, June 21

Sunday, June 21, we celebrate Father's Day. May the Lord bless all fathers. Guide them to be good role models and loving to all their children. Help them to be a father like you are. Give them grace and patience to handle situations with great love. Amen.

A Short Interview with St. Bruno's Newest Deacon

Gabe Saavedra
and wife Maria

How did you feel the moment Archbishop Gomez laid his hands on you during the Ordination Mass?
Gabe: As I approached Archbishop Gomez, I really did not know what to expect.  When his hands came upon my head, I felt a flow of power from my head to the core of my being.  I never have felt anything like that before. Archbishop Gomez told us that we would be "configured and sealed with a new identity, a sacred character, the character of Jesus the servant."  I was awed and humbled.

What were your thoughts and feelings during and after the Ordination Mass?
Maria: I have been to ordinations before and they are such beautiful and amazing celebrations. This time it was my husband who was being ordained. He had been called to serve God as an ordained minister of His Church! I was overwhelmed with such joy!  It was humbling and exciting at the same time. After the ordination, I was so touched and surprised to see so many people, our family, friends, and parish community genuinely expressing their heartfelt support and prayers.

How will your interest in outreach for married couples and families be further developed here at St. Bruno?
Gabe: Maria and I see a great need for Marriage and Family Ministry in our parish.  We are planning a new ministry which will provide a framework for marriage enrichment in order to develop and sustain happy, healthy, and holy marriages, as well as, serving to help and heal the people affected by the tremendous social pressures on marriage and family life in our parish and community.
Maria: The breaking up of marriages is the root of so many of our society’s ills.  We would like, first of all, to see what God would have us to do to help in this sad reality.  We envision a variety of ministries to help couples and families, such as marriage preparation ministry, accessible marriage and family counseling resources, marriage enrichment workshops, retreats and parish/community support groups, marriage anniversary recognition and blessings at Mass, and any other ministry that would help to strengthen, heal and celebrate marriages.

Abortions Drop 12% in the United States as More Babies are Saved

A recent study on Abortion in the Untied States conducted by the Associated Press revealed that the national average of abortions has gone down by 12% since 2010 - with some states having a decrease of over 25%.

Dr. Charmaine Yoest, the president of Americans United for Life, the nation’s premier pro-life legal team, commented on the results, "There's an entire generation of women who saw a sonogram as their first baby picture. There's an increased awareness of the humanity of the baby before it is born."

The exact reasoning behind these findings may be multiple, complex and often hard to measure, however, the power of prayer and the consistent effort of groups like the Whittier Life Center play an active role in this and do not go unnoticed.
