August 2014 Update

Hello CAUL-CBUA Community,

I hope you're all enjoying your summer vacations and that the weather is cooperating across the Atlantic region!

It has been three months since I started as the CAUL-CBUA Manager and I am thrilled to be involved in so many exciting projects and new developments. With the goal of keeping the CAUL-CBUA Members better informed, I plan to send email updates regarding upcoming projects and events. Please bear with me during this first update as there’s a lot of information to relay.

Also, you received this email as a member of a CAUL-CBUA mailing list. In accordance with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation, which came into effect on July 1st, 2014, please click on the link below to consent to receiving these newsletters in the future.

In August, be on the lookout for the following digital license renewals: ABI/INFORM Global, CINAHL, EconLit, EI Compendex, ERIC, PsycARTICLES, PsycINFO, and SPORTDiscus.

A trial is available for Informit Indigenous Collection until September 15, 2014. Username: cancon, password: trial

The Document Delivery Group transitioned to Relais v.2014 on Wednesday, July 23rd. There were initial issues with the email delivery function, making it necessary to revert back to Relais 2010.5. The bugs are currently being worked on by RI.

The Communications Committee has been exploring Mailing List options with the goal of implementing the same method of communication for each of the Committees, rather than the dispersed lists that currently exist. Stay tuned - the verdict is almost in. The Committee is also revisiting the Experience Exchange Webinar Series, so please contact me using the email link below if you have any opinions or ideas to share.

The Digital Preservation & Stewardship Committee would like to thank all those who completed the Data Management Services Surveys! The working groups are juggling multiple projects, including the creation of an obsolete formats list that will soon be available to members on the CAUL-CBUA website. A progress report will also be available early next year.

The Copyright Committee is currently creating a list of recommendations for an exit strategy from model license agreements.

The Scholarly Communications Committee will be starting new projects in the Fall, and is currently reviewing the terms of reference and renewing membership; contact me if you are interested in joining.

The Collections Committee is the newest CAUL-CBUA Committee, formed in July 2014. The Committee will advise the Manager on digital licensing decisions and collections related topics. The Terms of Reference are now available to view on the website.

The Collaborative Research and Innovative Grant Award Committee would like to remind you of the upcoming call for proposals, which will be posted later in August.

The Board of Directors' Fall meeting will be held in October. Contact me with reports or suggestions you would like to have presented at this meeting.
This Fall, coming to an institution near you… the CAUL-CBUA Manager. I've had the opportunity to “meet” many of you electronically but hope to greet you all personally. I will be visiting Member Institution Campus’ this October and am looking forward to the tours and discussions that will take place.

The CAUL-CBUA By-Laws were officially approved and submitted to Corporations Canada for approval of our transition to Canada's Not-for-Profit Corporations Act.

A handout was created for distribution to new staff at CAUL-CBUA Member Institutions. The handout is also available on the CAUL-CBUA website.

ABI/Inform Webinars will take place on Tuesday, August 12th at 11:00 am AT and Thursday, August 14th at 2:00 pm AT. The Webex details for these webinars will be available shortly, and will be distributed via the CAUL-CBUA Collections List.
Contact me at kreddy@caul-cbua if you have any information you would like to include in the next newsletter.
