Help HNPAT Plan 2016
(Houston Chapter - Native Prairies Association of Texas)

HNPAT is scheduling a 2016 planning meeting. We would like YOUR HELP, your ideas, and your suggestions to plan and organize 2016. Please plan to join us, even if you do not wish to be an officer or committee chair. NPAT Executive Director Pat Merkord will chair the meeting; out-going HNPAT President Lan Shen will also attend.

If you cannot attend any of the upcoming dates, but would like to receive emails about future HNPAT planning meetings, please email HNPAT@TexasPrairie.org and let me know.

Please indicate in the doodle poll (link: http://doodle.com/poll/ysuafw57ctu7ya43) ALL the times that you are available to attend the planning meeting. You do not have to login in or create an account to use the doodle poll.  If you do not wish to participate in a doodle poll, you may email (please click the email link) HNPAT@TexasPrairie.org and indicate your choices:
  • Monday, December 21, 6:30 - 8:15 pm
  • Tuesday, January 5, 6:30 - 8:15 pm
  • Wednesday, January 6, 6:30 - 8:15 pm
  • Cannot attend this time, but would like to continue receiving HNPAT planning emails
Meeting location will be determined. Possibilities are:
Luby's, 2400 South Macgregor Way, Houston, TX 77021
Luby's 1414 Waugh Dr, Houston, TX 77019
Cleburne Cafeteria 3606 Bissonnet, Houston, TX 77005 (need to check out to see if they can accomodate group and are relatively quiet)

Just to keep from sending another email to those who do not respond, but decide to come anyway, the final decision on meeting time & location will be posted on the home page of our website: HNPAT.wordpress.com by Sunday morning, December 20 at the latest. Or send an email to HNPAT@TexasPrairie.org saying that you would like to receive future HNPAT planning emails.

Scroll past upcoming events for preliminary information about 2016 Power Series.

Seed Collecting at UH Coastal Center which is usually not open to the public and where the gate is kept locked. Meet in front of the gate in La Marque, TX – google map: https://goo.gl/maps/X3plH.  Please arrive on time, so we can go through the locked gate together. Reminder: No facilities at UH Coastal Center.

  • Saturday, December 19, 2015, 9:00 a.m. to noon or later
    1222 E. Purdue Lane, Deer Park, TX 77536  https://goo.gl/maps/RtcecLSFnp22
** In addition to seed collecting, volunteers at Deer Park Prairie can also:
** Help get already chopped tree limbs and branches off the prairie by helping Glenn Merkord feed them into a chipper that The Nature Conservancy’s Nash Prairie loaned to us.
** Help with invasive control by (1) picking up residual Japanese honeysuckle pieces – chopped last weekend – off the prairie before they root in this moist soil, (2) digging up a few clumps of Angleton bluestem and (3) using a lopper to get rid of the invasive Lantana camera.

Please bring a signed liability release: adult or  adult+children
Please do not park directly in front of our neighbors’ houses – park across the street.

Note: The chipper was donated to Nash. It can be towed on the highway by a pickup truck. NPAT would really LOVE to have one to be used at all its prairies. Glenn needs to check the exact cost, but ball park figure is $15,000(?)  Any ideas??
