World Cities Day in Barcelona

 
On Thursday 30th October 2014, UN Habitat together with our hosts from the City Council of Barcelona, the Sant Pau Foundation, and a wide range of local development actors, will gather to celebrate World Cities Day.

This will be a major event of Urban October, and will be celebrated under the theme, “Leading Urban Transformations”, which aims to highlight the challenges, successes and progress of local governments in addressing sustainable urbanization. 

WCD-Barcelona will be foremost an opportunity to showcase the work of the City Resilience Profiling Programme and the Global Water Operators´ Partnership Alliance. For more information contact - WCD@gwopa.org 
 

World Water Forum: Preparatory Regional Workshop in Barcelona

This event, entitled “Promotion of Innovation and Linking Science and Technology” will be held on 6 November 1pm - 5pm is framed within the European Regional Process for World Water Forum 2015 in Korea. GWOPA is following and actively contributing to preparations for this Forum by collecting inputs from its network. More information can be found in the draft agenda, on  the World Water Forum website or by contacting GWOPA.

AFRICA

WOP - SOMAGEP (Mali) and ONEE of Morocco

The SOMAGEP-ONEE Partnership aimed at improving the performances of SOMAGEP through the reduction of losses related to NRW in the capital city of Bamako, and lessons learned from this experience were to be implemented in the 17 other service centers located in the inner cities of Mali. Experts from ONEE carried out a diagnosis visit at SOMAGEP in January 2014 in Bamako. 

ASIA

New WOPS in Asia following WaterLinks Forum


This Forum, hosted by WaterLinks in August, with support from USAID and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), brought together over 200 water service providers, practitioners and private sector and development partners from across Asia, the Pacific, Australia and the United States to discuss recent developments in solving urban water and wastewater inefficiencies and effective water operators partnerships ...

Forum participants gained practical know-how to address urban water supply and wastewater management challenges and discovered the benefits of peer-to-peer learning and innovative technology applications through the partnerships.
 

LATIN AMERICA

Risk Management & Natural Disasters workshop in Bahamas


A workshop on "Risk Management and Natural Disasters" for Water Operators in the Caribbean was co-organized by the regional platform of Water Operators' Partnerships in the Caribbean (Cari-WOP), WOP-LAC and GWOPA/UN-Habitat. The workshop was organized in the framework of the 23rd Annual CWWA Conference and Exhibition which takes place from 6 to 10 October in the Atlantis Paradise Island Resorts in The Bahamas. 2014 General Assembly &

WOP-LAC Steering Committee Annual meeting
         

ALOAS has now been hosting the WOP-LAC Secretariat for one year, with the continued support of UN-Habitat. In light of the visible impulse that the Platform has given to activities in the region, we would like to announce the forthcoming 2014 General Assembly, which will take place on Wednesday 26 of November, in the framework of the 4th Meeting of ALOAS in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  
 
The Assembly will begin at 2pm in the emblematic Palacio de las Aguas Corrientes (Palace of Running Water), a Monument of Natural History and Patrimony of the company Agua y Saneamientos Argentinos S.A. (AySA).
 
During the Assembly, four new members of the Steering Committee will be elected for the period 2015-2018, these members will replace the outgoing operators who have completed their mandate. Following the General Assembly, the Annual Meeting of the Steering Committee will take place and the newly elected members will be presented. The Work Plan for the period 2015 will also be approved.

PACIFIC

Represention from the Pacific at the Bajamas Risk Management Workshop


PWWA Executive Board Chairman, Opetaia Ravai (CEO Water Authority of Fiji) represented and presented on behalf of PWWA at the Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association (CWWA) 23rd Annual Conference Exhibition in Paradise Island in Bahamas.

CWWA was also represented at the PWWA 7th Annual Conference and Expo in American Samoa in September and the two associations shares similar challenges and experience. Discussions are now in progress for a prospect of a joint memorandum understanding (MOU) between the two associations.
