Message from CHS-MC President, Milena Pirnat

"I hope everyone is healthy and are managing well through COVID-19. As a society we are figuring out strategies to continue our work to support people with bleeding disorders in Manitoba and abroad. Some events will be cancelled and some postponed at this time for safety reasons. Your Board Directors and Christine are working hard to find efficient and creative ways to serve the community at these turbulent times. We are making sure to be informed, organized and ready. Always feel free to connect with us if you have any questions and/or concerns. The bleeding disorders community is a strong one, and we will get through this crisis together."

COVID-19 & Inherited Bleeding Disorders

Health Sciences Centre (HSC)
If you experience a bleeding episode please page the Manitoba Bleeding Disorders Program (MBDP) nurses or the hematologist on call for instructions. You can find all the paging instructions at Paging Instructions.
Current information on guidelines to entering HSC can be found at

Ordering Your Bleeding Disorders Medication
Currently there will be no changes to how members order or pick up their product from CBS. You should expect to order the same amount of product as usual.

The Manitoba Bleeding Disorders Program is asking members for more notice when ordering your product. Please place an order when you have two weeks of product left at home. This will help avoid any unforeseen delays.

Reliable COVID-19 Information
Many of us use the internet and social media feeds to seek and share information. Please watch our Facebook page @HemophiliaMB and website for updates. Bleeding disorders questions are best answered by the Manitoba Bleeding Disorders Program. Here are some links to reliable information:

CHS-MC Annual General Meeting (AGM) - New Date & Delivery

The AGM this year will be held on Tuesday April 28th at 6:00 pm. This meeting will be a video conference via Zoom. Chapter committees have been using Zoom for meetings for the past year. We will send out the log-in information to members a week before the meeting. You can access this meeting via your computer, tablet or phone. If you want to test your ability to log into Zoom, contact the office and we will set up a test meeting so you can try it in advance of April 28th.
The meeting will include a presentation of the Annual Report. We will review the 2019 Financial Statements and the 2020 budget. We will be electing a new slate of officers and appoint an auditor for the ensuing year.

Board Elections
CHS-MC wants to be representative of all the different types of members that we serve. We currently need representation on the Board of Directors from Chapter families with children in the pediatric program, members with Von Willebrand Disease and women with inherited bleeding disorders. We are always looking for new Board members to keep the organization relevant with new ideas and fresh perspectives.
CHS-MC is a grass-roots, volunteer run organization. We rely on volunteers to sit on the Board of Directors as well as the Chapter’s committees. Have you ever thought of running for a position? If you worry that you don’t have any experience being a Board Director, we provide support and training to develop our Board members. Your commitment is to attend the Board meetings (about five times a year) and we ask Board members to participate on the committee of their choice. The committee you choose may reflect your particular bleeding disorder, interest, or time availability. We offer new Directors some time to learn about all of our working committees and what they do before requiring a choice be made. Please have a look at Board Volunteer Job Descriptions for more information about the different roles. Please call the office or email us if you have any questions.
Nominations & Proxies
Nominations must be into the office by April 4th. Please download a 2020 Board of Directors Nomination Form and have it sent into the Chapter office by April 4th. If you would like us to mail you a form, please contact the office.
Proxy forms must be into the office by Wednesday, April 17th. Please download a 2020 Proxy Form and have it into the office by April 17th. If you would like us to mail a form to you, please contact the office.
