Congratulations to 2020 Gala Committee!

Congratulations to the 2020 Gala Committee! Gala Chair Katherine Cameron and this amazing group of people worked from September 2019 to March 2020. Back row from left to right: Jason Oltrop, Bruce Cameron, Shane Keilback, Cory Prestayko, Janet Bishop Front row left to right: Christine Keilback, Danielle Figler, Katherine Cameron, Dana Beljanic, Lynda Regan Missing: Silvana Moran

There are many people to thank for the success of the 2020 Gala. We are very grateful to the volunteers who worked so hard that night to look after our guests. Thank you doesn’t seem enough to express our appreciation for the chef team that created a fantastic meal. We are grateful to the guests who were unable to attend but left their ticket purchase with the Chapter as a donation. Those that were able to attend were incredibly generous. Despite a 25% reduction in attendees, the Chapter raised more at the event than we did in 2019! Please have a look at the sponsors and donors on the Gala website home page. We could not hold the event without their support!

All the photos have been posted at 2020 Gala Photos! The 2021 Gala Dinner will be held at Delta Hotels by Marriott Winnipeg on Saturday March 13th.

Chapter Sports Bursary Program Covers Protective Equipment

The Chapter’s Sports Bursary Program provides funding to promote a healthy lifestyle for children and youth with bleeding disorders through safe physical activities. Chapter youth, 17 years or younger, with a moderate or severe bleeding disorder can apply for two bursaries of $100 each in a calendar year.

Most often families will apply for a bursary to defray the registration cost for an organized sport. We wanted to remind Chapter families that protective equipment is also eligible for bursaries. This can include bike helmets, knee and elbow pads, gloves and wrist guards.

To apply for a bursary for protective equipment, the application does not need to be approved by a physiotherapist. Fill out the bursary form and send it directly to the Chapter office with the receipt(s).

Family Camp Announcement – Chapter President, Milena Pirnat

I hope that you are all staying healthy and safe during this time. The Manitoba Chapter, CHS and the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) are working hard to maintain regular events during this unprecedented time, but unfortunately many of them have been postponed or cancelled. Locally, we have had to cancel the Healthy Aging Workshop, Code Rouge nationally, and WFH has cancelled the World Congress.

We are very sorry to have to announce that one of our best programs, our annual summer camp will also be canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. We were hoping that the situation would improve in the summer but due to the fact that a nurse and physiotherapist will not be able to attend, as well as the inability to ensure that measures to maintain a safe camping experience are impossible to guarantee at this time, we have no other choice than to cancel camp.

CHS and CHS-MC is shifting gears to create virtual events and we are working to make sure to engage you and your families in excellent quality programming this year. We will need your input and your creative ideas on what your family would enjoy for group activities and educational programs this summer.

We are inviting camp families and child educators in our community to join us for a Zoom planning meeting at 8 pm on Monday, May 28th. We will take your feedback to a CHS meeting in early June where the National office and Chapter leaders will work to create a Camp Online program. Please contact the Chapter office at info@hemophiliamb.ca for the login information.

Minecraft Volunteer Needed

The Chapter is looking for an adult member who has experience hosting a Minecraft server. We would like to explore providing a space for Chapter children to play together. We'd love to talk to you about it!
Katherine Cameron is Chair of the Chapter's Volunteer Committee. This committee is calling for new members. It is a 4 meetings a year commitment and we can do meetings virtually. For World Hemophilia Day  Katherine  recorded a presentation on what the committee does. Are you interested in not for profit work? Event planning? Hospitality industry?  Check it out and contact the office if you can help us! Our volunteers are precious to us!

Thank you Chapter Update Sponsors!
