WFH Twins Visiting Winnipeg

The CHS-MC Twinning Committee is very excited to welcome Mandaa Nyamdorj, the President of the Mongolian National Hemophilia Association, to Winnipeg this July. Members of the Manitoba team have visited Mongolia three times and are excited to host Mandaa here.
We will be taking Mandaa to experience our Family Camp program for two days. A camp program is a priority for them and we look forward to Mandaa meeting the families and learning how our camp is operated.
Invitation
You are all invited to meet our guest from Mongolia. To warmly welcome her, Peter Czehryn and Paulette Cote would like to invite all interested members on a tour of the Exchange District which Peter developed many years ago while volunteering for City Parks and Recreation.  Please dress for the weather and bring water as we will be walking and stopping for about an hour. The tour begins at 2PM on Wednesday, July 18th and we will gather in front of the Planetarium on Main Street.
For those unable to join us on the tour but who would still like to meet Mandaa, we will plan a stop for refreshments at Shannon's Irish Pub at 175 Carlton immediately after the Exchange tour. Expected time of arrival at Shannon's is 3:15 - 3:30PM.
Please RSVP to the office ASAP indicating your interest in joining the tour and/or the pub visit afterwards.  Hope to see you all there as we kick off our warm Manitoban welcome!!!

Information on Study Posted at Let's Talk Period

Information about the study, Reporting of Bleeding Symptoms within Families of Hemophilia Patients, is available on Let's Talk Period. Dr. Paula James, from Queen’s University in Kingston and Dr. Michelle Sholzberg, from St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto are the key researchers. This study will be of great interest to women carriers of hemophilia, in our community.
coderouge 2018 – 2nd Canadian conference on bleeding disorders in women SESSION 1 - Bleeding assessment tools in caring for women with bleeding disorders – What’s new for patients and clinicians? Very interesting talk by Dr. James that includes the study mentioned above.

Calling all VWD Stakeholders!

The World Federation of Hemophilia is asking:
Are you a person with VWD, or do you care for someone with VWD?
Are you a hematologist or other healthcare professional working with people with VWD?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, the WFH invites you to complete a stakeholder survey to inform the development of diagnosis and management guidelines for VWD:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VWD_Diagnosis_Management_Sco…
To read more about this project, visit: https://news.wfh.org/vwd-guidelines-development-add-voice/.
Share this invitation with all the VWD stakeholders you know!

Meet Jason Oltrop!

Jason Oltrop became a valued volunteer for the Chapter when he joined the Communications Committee in 2012. His experience as an IT professional and his knowledge of social media helped us launch our social media platforms. Jason placed analytics on our website so we can track what sections are most interesting to our members and to the general public.

Jason expanded his volunteer commitment when he became a member of the Gala Committee in 2016. Jason creates the title slides and assembles the event’s PowerPoint presentations and looks after all IT needs throughout the evening.

Jason is passionate about running. He is a Clinic Instructor for the Running Room and volunteers for the Manitoba Marathon and other runs throughout the year. Last year, he brought a new fundraiser to the Chapter, Run 4 Your Cause. This running event allows charities to work together to raise funds while providing a family friendly event that includes a Kid’s Run! Jason is the Chapter’s representative on the organizing committee and he hopes we can grow Chapter participation in the 2018 October run.

We are very lucky to have Jason’s participation in the Chapter and we are grateful that he has a close friend on the Chapter Board. Jason doesn’t have inherited bleeding disorders in his family, but he certainly has become a part of our family!

Can you Help the 2018 Golf Tournament?

There are a number of ways that members can help with the tournament and we could use your help!
1) Tell your golfer friends! This is a fun tournament, the volunteers are fantastic and Bridges is a gorgeous course. The more golfers we have, the greater our capacity to provide programs and services. Registration info is below.
2) Sponsors - Can you forward the tournament information to your employer or to a contact at a company? If you are uncomfortable doing so, send us their contact info and we'll do it for you! The Sponsorship Program is posted on the Chapter website.
3) Make a Donation - We need prizes for the golfers. The less we purchase, the more funds go into programs and services. If you have no idea what kind of prize to donate, gift cards from places like Golf Town, Walmart, Canadian Tire, Cabela's, and Costco will help us as either a prize or allow us to purchase what we need. Any gift card is appreciated!
4) Volunteer - It takes a small army of smiling faces to execute a golf tournament. We have been so lucky to have wonderful volunteers working with our golfers. There are a variety of positions so if you are interested, contact the office and we'll find a job that works for you!

Proceeds from the Golf Tournament help CHS-MC and CLF-MR provide education, services, support and advocacy for our members living with hepatitis, liver disease and bleeding disorders. We hope that you will pitch in and help!
