Important Product Pick-up Information

There are changes to product pick-up for members who are using Hemlibra and an important reminder for those who pick-up their medication at Canadian Blood Services.

Canadian Blood Services is reminding members that pick up at 777 William Avenue is only available from Monday to Friday between the hours of 10 am and 6 pm (excluding statutory holidays). If you arrive at any other time, you will be asked to come back during their operating hours. If you are picking up product after 4 pm, please call Blood Product Management at 204.789.1034 and notify them before 3 pm, that day. This will avoid delays in having your order issued. It is always best to call in advance of picking up to save yourself some time but essential for picking up after 4 pm.

Members using Hemlibra are advised that the HSC Psychiatric Health pharmacy will no longer be distributing Hemlibra as of October 24, 2022. It will now be dispensed from the CancerCare (CCMB) outpatient pharmacy. A letter from the Manitoba Bleeding Disorders Program (MBDP) nurses regarding this change will be sent to all affected.
Currently, the CCMB pharmacy does not have an “outpatient” dispensing area due to Covid. Members will contact the MBDP nurses when they have 2 treatments remaining, to re-order. Then arrangements will be made to collect your medication. It is important to note that you will need to bring a cooler to take your product home. Again, all the instructions will be in the letter from the nurses.

Outstanding Member Support for 2023 Grey Cup Pool

This has been an amazing year for the Grey Cup Pool fundraiser! All 1800 tickets had left the office by the end of September. If you have tickets you don't think you can sell, we have a waiting list in the office of members who would take them. Please try to have your tickets back to the office by November 16th. The committee will appreciate the time to sort the stubs so we can get the prizes out as soon as possible after the game!

All proceeds from the Grey Cup Pool fundraiser support Member Services

 Member Service: Medical ID Jewelry

The Chapter strongly encourages members to take advantage of the Member Service that provides funding for Medical ID jewelry.

Medical Identification Jewelry
Member Services will reimburse up to $100, every other year, for the purchase of medical identification jewelry. This does not include annual membership fees required by some suppliers.
Members can pay for the item and send the receipt to the office for reimbursement or send their order form to the Chapter office and we will place and pay for the order. Payment for orders over $100 will be arranged when the order is placed. Members are welcome to choose their preferred vendor and product. Here are some frequently used sites:

Universal Medical Id
MedicAlert Foundation of Canada

One of the challenges of medical ID jewelry is getting your child to wear it! You may have to try a few items to see what works. Chapter mom Amanda shared with the office that her daycare age son wanted something that he could take on and off, easily. He was happy with this solution!

Annual Gala Dinner of Culinary Inspirations 2023!

Planning for the 2023 event is starting on November 1st! We have a fantastic group of volunteers who are excited to welcome new members to the planning committee. Is this the year you join us? Curious?

The Volunteer section of the Chapter website has a section devoted to the detailed job descriptions of the Gala Committee Members. We invite new members to attend the virtual meetings, shadow experienced members and help where they feel the most comfortable.

This is a great group of people to work with and many hands make light work! If you would like to join the first Zoom meeting on November 1st at 7 pm to see what it is like, please contact Christine at or call 204.775.8625.

Equipment for Sale

We have a Chapter member who has some very gently used equipment to sell. They prefer to offer it to other Chapter members before posting the items online. If you are interested, please contact Christine at or call the office at 204.775.8625 and we will connect you to the seller.

Giving Tuesday, November 29th 2022

What is GivingTuesday? GivingTuesday is the world’s largest generosity movement. It was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good: make someone smile, help a neighbour or stranger, show up for an issue you care about, or give some of what you have to those in need. Over the past nine years it has since grown into a global movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. GivingTuesday is a time when Canadians, charities, and businesses come together to celebrate giving and participate in activities that support charities and non-profits; to thank, help, give, show kindness, and share what they have with those in need. Every act of generosity counts. Everybody has something to give.

Please consider making a donation to the Chapter through our page.

Have you Updated Your Membership Information?

Congratulation to Chapter member N. Slavuta, who won the first prize that was drawn at the end of August. She won a $300 Esso card!  Everyone who was in the first draw is carried over to the second draw, which will be held on November 30th.

Why would you fill in a membership registration...again?
1. Members move, drop their land line or change their email address and we don't want to lose touch with you!
2. If you are from a Chapter family, but have a new diagnosis, we will not have that information and might miss sending you important bleeding disorders news.
3. If your young adult has moved away, we likely won't get their new contact information until they need a service or want to access a program.
4. If you want an effective organization that will advocate on behalf of the bleeding disorders community, we need to be able to tell government and funders how many Manitobans we serve and the variety of bleeding disorders represented in our community.
5. Everyone who fills out a Membership registration form, between June 2022 and June 2023, is entered to win a prize!
