ENTRION has developed a risk-based asset management solution for drilling contractors to improve the availability of their rigs while minimizing operation and maintenance costs. The approach combines a predictive maintenance approach that models future reliability based on Mean Time to Failure (MTTF) of equipment, with calculations of the economic consequences of potential failures.
The model optimizes maintenance budgets by allocating more resources to high-risk items and fewer resources to low-risk items resulting in an overall reduction in risk and downtime. A prototype modeling of a subsea mux control system estimates a tenfold improvement in reliability while not significantly impacting maintenance costs.
The subsea control system model will be incorporated into ENTRION’s web-hosted risk management suite, ProFin RiskTM. Meanwhile, models for other equipment that significantly impacts drilling rig availability, such as subsea stacks and top drives, will also be developed and incorporated into the risk management suite.
