Falcon Digest Transition to Vallo Voice

In an effort to streamline email communication across campus, the Technology Advisory Council (TAC) has approved a change in email newsletter notifications to be piloted throughout the summer months and into the beginning of the fall semester.

The Falcon Digest daily email newsletter will cease to campus effective Friday, May 31.

Email news notifications will then move to a weekly format through Vallo Voice. Vallo Voice is currently received weekly by faculty and staff. A second version will now be produced for students.

The newsletter will be published with new content every Monday and as a refresher every Thursday (no new content — only updates to current content on Thursdays). Learn more about the transition.

To submit information to Vallo Voice, simply fill out the appropriate form at montevallo.edu/vallovoice.

*The deadline for submission will be noon on Thursday each week prior to publication.

Campus Migration to Outlook 365

The email migration to Outlook 365 will start Wednesday, May 8. This change brings a host of benefits including added security and manageability. Most important of these benefits is a virtually unlimited inbox (50 Gig).

Mailbox migrations will be conducted after hours over the course of several weeks. When you are on the schedule for migration you will receive an email that your account is about to be migrated to Office 365.

After your mailbox has been migrated, your devices may need to be updated to access your email account. Android, iPhone and Apple Mail users will need to remove their current UM account and add the Office 365 account. Email addresses will be unchanged. Instructional documents can be found on the UM website under Faculty & Staff.

May is National Military Appreciation Month

Did you know the EpiPen auto-injection device was used first in the Military? Long before kids, parents and schools were carrying EpiPens around for allergic reactions, the U.S. Military provided the device to soldiers. Early versions of the EpiPen auto-injection technology were used by the military to safeguard against nerve gas attacks. The Mark I NAAK (Nerve Agent Antidote Kit) is still a part of every service member’s survival kit. This fun fact is provided by the UM Office of Veteran and Military Affairs, who encourages you to do something special this month to honor those who are serving or have served our country in the military.

Faculty/Staff Highlights

Will Hasenbein was recently named as the Student Aid Office’s new loan administrator. Hasenbein graduated from UM in 2013 and previously served as student aid assistant.

At the Board of Trustees meeting, held May 1, the following faculty were approved for promotion or tenure.

Promotion to professor: Joseph Bennett, Carey Heatherly, Min Sun Lee and Dr. Brett Noerager.

Promotion to associate professor and tenure: Dr. Stacy Bishop, Dr. Laura Bloom, Dr. Bruce Finklea, Dr. Judith Harrington, Dr. Mary Maxwell and Dr. Jun Wang.
