Registration Open for UM Community School of Music & Children’s Musicianship Class
The UM Community School of Music offers music lessons for all ages and abilities in the community. Lessons are offered in piano, voice, guitar, violin, trumpet, flute, French horn, trombone, clarinet, mandolin, ukulele and organ.
Additionally, there is a no-cost musicianship class for children ages 5 to 11. In this class, students will play interactive music games, learn about famous composers, listen to music from around the world and create their own compositions. These classes will be held on Monday nights from 6 to 6:45 p.m. beginning Jan. 22.

UM Green Fund Calling for 2018 Proposals
The UM Green Fund is a pool of money used to provide grants for campus projects that improve sustainability, decrease our ecological footprint and educate the University and local communities about sustainable practices, environmental issues and caring for the planet.
The Green Fund has $7,000 available. Any member of the current UM community, including students and student groups, can write a Green Fund grant proposal.
All Proposals are due Feb. 1. Proposal requirements are available by request from sustainability@montevallo.edu.
Spring ACT Prep Camps Begin Jan. 20
UM will continue to host ACT Prep Camps for high school students throughout the spring semester. The total cost of each camp is $110, which includes lunch and a snack. Children of UM faculty and staff members are eligible to receive a special scholarship that will take 20 percent off the total cost of the camp.
The first session of the semester will be held on Saturday, Jan. 20 and the second session will be March 24. Register online.
Campus Bookstore Stocked With Spring Textbooks
The UM Campus Bookstore is fully stocked with all necessary textbooks for Spring 2018. They will price match all textbooks from Amazon, Barnes & Noble.com and local competitors. Extended hours for Jan. 8-14 are as follows:
- Monday-Thursday: 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
- Friday: 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
- Saturday: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
- Sunday: Closed
The bookstore will also be open on MLK Day, Jan. 15 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
