University Named Best Teaching School in Alabama

The University of Montevallo has been named the best school in the state and one of the top schools in the Southeast for graduate programs in instructional media design, specifically instructional technology.

Teaching Degree Search recently released its 2021 Best Teaching Schools rankings, and UM was named the best instructional media design school in Alabama, the best instructional media design graduate school in Alabama and one of the top 10 instructional media design schools in the Southeast.

UM Post Office Holiday Hours

The UM Post Office will offer services as follows during the winter holiday break:

Farmer Hall access to UM Post Office Boxes
Open Thursday, Dec. 17, and Tuesday, Dec. 29,
11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

UM Post Office Window/Counter
Open Thursday, Dec. 17, and Tuesday, Dec. 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

If you are expecting large amounts of mail or have outgoing mail, this will be the time to pick it up or drop it off.

All University-related outgoing or incoming packages will be processed on Friday, Dec. 11. UPS, FEDEX, DHL and other special carriers do not run over the break. All packages are held at their facilities until we return from the break.

Library Hours and Respondus Access

Carmichael Library will be open during finals week from 2 to 10 p.m. on Sunday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday. For the final two hours on Sunday through Thursday (8 to 10 p.m.), the ground floor only will be open. Students who are on the upper floors at that time will be asked to relocate to the ground floor. Research assistance from a librarian (online or in-person) will be available until 8 p.m.
In addition to study space, computer and Internet access and research help, the library has two computers with webcams available for students to take Respondus tests. Call 205-665-6100 or email with any questions. Good luck on your final exams and assignments, and let us know how we can help.

Important Information for Students from the Cashier’s Office

Students can plan ahead now for spring 2021 by reviewing the Important Deadlines page regarding spring 2021 at

  • Interested students may enroll in a spring 2021 payment plan at zero percent down and $40 enrollment through the end of November.
  • Students with no SSN on file must complete the W-9s form and submit it with proper identification to the Registrar’s Office. This will update the student’s account for tax reporting (1098-T).
  • If students would like to receive their 1098-T electronically in 2021, they can opt-in or if students would like to withdraw their consent due to graduation or other reasons, they can opt-out. If students are receiving their tax form via paper mail, they should make sure their address is up-to-date in Banner Self-Service. To opt-in or opt-out, please visit for further information.
  • Any student interested in setting up direct deposit must provide their UM ID or a valid state ID with voided check or bank letterhead with account number and routing number IN PERSON to the Cashier’s Office. Due to security reasons, this is not acceptable by email or fax.
  • Students who have credit balances beginning Nov. 16, 2020, through Jan. 20, 2021, may charge books at UM’s Barnes & Noble Bookstore.
  • Employee waivers, dependent waivers or third-party contract forms must be submitted by Monday, Dec. 14. for funds to reflect on student accounts in a timely manner.

ValloCycle Glow Ride

Tuesday, Dec. 8, 5:30 p.m., UMOM

Join us for a leisurely night ride around Montevallo to de-stress during exams or get into the holiday spirit! This will be our last ride of 2020, so you don’t want to miss it. Our approximately five-mile journey takes us through the town and off the main roads (no one is left behind). We ride after dark, so decorate your bike with lights! We also have some lights to lend out for the ride. We will start and end at UMOM and will have hot drinks waiting for you at the end. Email if you need to borrow a free bike for the ride. Meet in front of UMOM at 5:30 p.m. The ride begins at 6 p.m.
