Global and Targeted Email Changes
The new Global and Targeted Email Guidelines, which allow informative University-related emails to be sent to more specific groups, went into effect on June 25. These guidelines were designed based on feedback given by Faculty Senate, Staff Senate, SGA, TAC and other departments across campus. The final copy is available online.
Academic Affairs Seeking Candidate to Fulfill Service Learning Coordinator Position
The Office of Academic Affairs is seeking applications from full-time regular faculty members to fulfill the role of service learning coordinator.
The coordinator reports to the provost and receives a one-course release each semester and a stipend in the summer. The job duties include chairing the Service Learning and Community Engagement Committee, serving as the academic coordinator of the Falcon Scholars in Action program and promoting the expansion of service learning courses and other service learning opportunities for students, among other responsibilities.
The letter of application should explain your interest in the position, your experience with the Service Learning Program, the strengths you would bring to the role of coordinator and any goals you might have for the program.
Applications, along with a recommendation from your department chair, should be submitted to Mary Horton by Thursday, July 12.
UM to Swear in Alexander as Police Chief June 26
On Tuesday, June 26, UM will host a swearing in ceremony for its new chief of police and director of public safety, Tim Alexander. The ceremony will take place in Anna Irvin Dining Hall between 5 and 6 p.m. Members of the campus and local community are encouraged to attend and welcome Chief Alexander.
Campus Paving Improvements
The Physical Plant announced paving on Bloch Street (behind 3D building), College Drive, Lund parking lot, New Hall parking lot, and the overflow parking lot which began on Monday, June 25 and will continue through approximately July 4.
Please avoid traveling the College Drive route when possible. There may be delays when traveling near this area. As always, use caution around all construction zones.
Campus to Close July 2 and 3 for Independence Day
The President’s Office announced that all non-critical offices will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, July 2-3, 2018, in recognition of the July 4 holiday. Certain personnel in critical areas may be notified of the need to work on these days. The University will reopen at 8 a.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2018.
Nominations Open for Retired Faculty and Staff Award
The Retired Faculty and Staff Award is presented by University Advancement in the fall to honor a retired faculty or staff member for excellence in service and loyalty to UM.
To be eligible, a nominee must have retired from UM before July 1, 2013. Retired faculty and staff that have returned to UM in a full-time or part-time capacity are not eligible.
Nominations are accepted throughout the year with a deadline of July 1. The nomination form may be submitted electronically or in hard copy and is available online. Call 205-665-6219 for more information.
