Outdoor Scholars Program Sees Record Fall Enrollment

The President’s Outdoor Scholars Program will see its highest-ever enrollment this fall, nearly doubling in size thanks to a large incoming class.

In the fall, the program will welcome 40 new students, bringing its total enrollment to 83 students. The program includes students from Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Maryland, Minnesota, Indiana and Wisconsin. Read more.

Freddie the Falcon encourages you to take precautions to help prevent the spread of viral respiratory infections like the flu or COVID-19.

Each and every one of us is responsible for doing our part to ensure a safe and successful semester. We’re in this together!

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing.
  • Practice social distancing by staying six feet away from others.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Wear a mask in public to protect others.
  • Monitor your health and stay home if you have a fever or respiratory symptoms. Call your health care provider or Student Health Services.

The Cashier’s Office encourages students to view its Important Deadlines webpage for information on fall 2020 payment plan options, charging books at the UM Bookstore against credit balances and more.

Faculty/Staff Highlights

Dr. Jennifer Rickel, associate professor of English, has written an article titled “The Fear of Foreign Violence and the Narrative of American Victimization: Lessons from Three Post-9/11 Coming-of-Age Novels” that is now published in Studies in the Novel, vol. 52, no. 2, Summer 2020.

Student Highlights

The All-Academic Teams for the 2020 NCAA Division II track and field season were recently announced by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Overall, there were 263 different men’s and women’s programs honored for their academic excellence. Among those receiving the honor were Montevallo’s track and field program after matching the academic standards set forth by the USTFCCCA. Read more.
