Lunch & Learn
The Staff Senate’s February Lunch & Learn will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 8 from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and 12:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Master Classroom in Wills Hall. This free monthly professional-development event is offered through the lunch hour for all staff to grow their professional and personal skills.
This month’s topic is Social Media and How it Affects You. Bring your own lunch and beverage. Dessert will be provided. R.S.V.P. to B.J. Posey. Please specify which session you will be attending.
February Lights Night Ride
Take a break from College Night festivities to get some exercise and have some fun!
ValloCycle will host a nighttime bike ride around the city of Montevallo on Wednesday, Feb. 8. To participate, meet in front of UMOM at 6:30 p.m. The five-mile ride will depart at 7 p.m. and stretch through the residential areas of Montevallo, ending at Eclipse Coffee and Books between 7:30 and 7:45 p.m.
All riders are encouraged to decorate their bicycles with lights and wear side colors, if so inclined. Anyone in need of a bike is encouraged to contact Dr. Susan Caplow to reserve one through ValloCycle.
Food Truck Thursday
The Office of Partnerships and Outreach is excited to announce Food Truck Thursdays are back!
Visit the first truck of the semester Thursday, Feb. 9, on Brooke Quad from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This semester’s line up includes seven new food vendors, as well as favorites from last semester. Be sure to follow UM’s official social media to find out which food truck will be visiting each week.
Clothing Drive Donations Requested
The offices of Partnerships and Outreach, Service Learning and the Career Center will host another Dress For Success event for students on April 13.
They are currently seeking clean, gently-used donations for men and women for the annual UM professional clothing drive benefiting UM students:
Men — suites, ties, shirts, jackets, slacks, belts and shoes
Women — suites, shirts, jackets, slacks, skirts, dresses, shoes and accessories
Donations will be accepted through Friday, March 24, and can be dropped off from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. at the GloCo Building, located at 845 Valley Street. To schedule a pick up, email Kelli Holmes.
Upcoming University Summer Festivities
This summer, UM will host an exciting new festival and camp.
The inaugural Montevallo Yoga Festival will take place on May 20. This day-long festival will be the first of its kind in Alabama. MoYo is designed to attract those interested in yoga, nature, healthy living, wellness, fitness, natural healing, meditation and mind and body connections.
The College of Fine Arts’ Department of Theatre will host the Alabama High School Theatre Camp from June 11 to 16. This state-wide residential camp will provide a process-focused approach, engaging several aspects of theatre study to train young high school actors of all levels.
Anyone interested is encouraged to register quickly before all available spaces are filled.
Environmental Studies Seeks Courses
The interdisciplinary program, Environmental Studies is seeking faculty interested in teaching courses with environmental content to cross list as ES 310/410: Special Topics in Environmental Studies for Fall 2017. To learn more, contact Dr. Susan Caplow.
