Departmental Mail Procedures Updated
As part of the University’s data governance project and to improve security of mail handling, the University is implementing changes to Departmental Mail Procedures. Effective Aug. 15, all departmental mail will be dropped off and picked up at the UM Post Office in Farmer Hall. Packages will still be delivered to departments by Central Receiving. Your department’s mailbox key may be claimed at the UM Post Office on weekdays between the hours of 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. beginning Aug. 13.
Carmichael Library Begins Fall Hours
The Library’s regular semester hours began on Aug. 20, and are as follows:
- Mon.-Wed., 7:30 a.m. to 1 a.m.
- Thurs., 7:30 a.m. to midnight
- Fri., 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Sat., 1 to 5 p.m.
- Sun., 2 p.m. to 1 a.m.

- Kick Boxing: Mon. & Wed., 7 to 8 p.m.
- Yoga: Tues. & Thurs., 5 to 6 p.m.
- Zumba: Tues. & Thurs., 7 to 8 p.m.
Take Private Music Lessons with the Community School of Music
The Community School of Music is taking registrations for private music lessons during the fall 2018 semester. They welcome all ages and skill levels. Instruments include voice, piano, guitar, violin, trumpet, flute, trombone, clarinet and percussion plus more! Learn more and register online.
For children between 5 and 11 years old, they offer a free musicianship class on Monday evenings beginning Sept. 10. Classes start in Davis Hall at 6:15 p.m. and last 45 minutes. In this class, students will play interactive music games that help develop music reading and rhythm skills, learn about famous composers, listen and learn about music from around the world and create their own compositions to share with family and friends. Montevallo Connection Meetings
Please mark your calendars and join Montevallo Connection for their upcoming meetings where you will hear updates and needs from our local principals and teachers at Montevallo Elementary School, Montevallo Middle School and Montevallo High School. This is a great opportunity for your department or your class to determine where you can collaborate and help local students. Meetings for this academic year are scheduled for:
- Wed. Sept. 12, at Montevallo High School from 4 to 5 p.m.
- Wed., Nov. 14, at Montevallo Elementary School from 4 to 5 p.m.
- Wed., Feb. 20, at Montevallo Middle School from 4 to 5 p.m.

The City by Night: Noir, Crime and Mystery from the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema
The Foreign Language Program and Latin American Studies Minor presents a film series from the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema in Comer Auditorium. Films will be shown in Spanish with English subtitles. Dr. Eric Vaccarella will provide a brief introduction for each film.
