UM to Celebrate MLK Jr. Day with Guest Speaker
On Jan. 18, the University will host Reverend Michael Wortham, the Youth Minister of Atlanta’s historic Ebenezer Baptist Church. Wortham will hold a presentation and discussion to celebrate the legacy and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The event will be held in LeBaron Auditorium at 3:30 p.m.

UM Student Employment Office Introduces New Website
The Student Employment Office is introducing a new website for 2017. The new Student Employment Page includes access to the student employee handbook, timesheet instructions and other resources. Additionally, the website hosts access to three required online quizzes all student employees must take before beginning their positions.

Soon, all open student positions will be available to view on the UM jobs page. Student employee supervisors will also eventually be able to view applications for positions through the University’s applicant tracking system, PeopleAdmin. The Student Employment Office will announce PeopleAdmin training sessions for all supervisors in the near future.

University Happenings

Learn to “Deskercise” at Staff Senate Lunch
On Wednesday, Jan. 11, UM’s staff senate will host its first Lunch & Learn professional development session of the new year. This month’s course topic is Deskercise, which will showcase ways to sneak in stretching and exercises while working long hours at a desk.

The event will take place in the SGA Meeting Room on the top floor of Farmer Hall. Interested staffs members should RSVP to B.J. Posey and bring their own lunch and beverage. Dessert will be provided.

January Lights Night Ride
ValloCycle will host its second nighttime bike ride around the city of Montevallo on Wednesday, Jan. 11. The five-mile ride will start in front of UMOM at 6:30 p.m. and stretch through the residential areas of Montevallo, ending at Eclipse Coffee and Books around 7 p.m.

All riders are encouraged to decorate their bicycles with lights. Anyone in need of a bike is encouraged to contact Dr. Susan Caplow to reserve one through ValloCycle.

UM to Host ACT Prep Camp
On Feb. 4, the University will host an ACT Prep Camp from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All students of UM employees will receive a 20 percent discount off the regular $100 price. The majority of students who have participated in this camp have seen an increase of two to seven points on their ACT score. Register students

UM Bookstore Holding Clearance Sale
The UM Barnes and Noble bookstore is running a clearance sale from now until Friday, Jan. 20. All clearance items are 50 percent off their current clearance price.
