UM Concert Choir Chosen to Perform at Regional Conference

The University of Montevallo Concert Choir, under the direction of Dr. Melinda Doyle, has been chosen to perform at the American Choral Directors Association Southern Region Conference in Mobile from March 11-14, 2020.

More than 100 performing choirs from Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and Kentucky submitted applications to perform at the conference, and only 20 were selected. UM and UAB were the only two choirs from Alabama chosen for the conference.

“Being invited to sing at the ACDA Southern Division Conference is an amazing opportunity for our students,” Doyle said. “Not only is it a prestigious honor for our choir to perform for some of the finest choral musicians in the region, but also it will be an inspiring and exhilarating experience as they continue to develop an even greater love and appreciation for the choral music art form.”

Montevallo was chosen to perform at the conference based on audio submissions from the past three academic years, and its accomplishments and performing vitae. Read more

Volunteers Needed for Move-In Day

It’s almost time once again to welcome new students and their families to our Montevallo community. As you know, moving away to college is an exciting, and at times overwhelming, milestone in the lives of our students and their loved ones. Part of the UM tradition is for our students, faculty, staff, alumni and community to join together to help make this process less overwhelming by assisting our new students as they move into the residence halls. The students and their families truly appreciate the extra help. Please consider joining in to offer a warm Montevallo welcome to the students moving into our community.

There are many ways you can assist us in extending a hearty welcome. In addition to helping students carry belongings to their rooms, volunteers are needed to hand out water, hold doors, provide direction and answer general questions, among other tasks.

New students will move in Friday, Aug. 23, from 8 a.m. until noon. Volunteer shifts are available from 7:45 to 10 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. to noon. However, whatever amount of time you can donate is appreciated. To sign up, contact the Housing and Residence Life Office at 205-665-6235 or email Stephanie Naish by Aug. 21. All volunteers will receive a free T-shirt to wear the day of move-in.
