Living and Sustaining a Creative Life
Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m., via Zoom
Sharon Louden is an active artist and passionate advocate for artists. The author of two critically acclaimed books, “Living and Sustaining a Creative Life: Essays by 40 Working Artists” and “The Artist as Culture Producer: Living and Sustaining a Creative Life,” she wants to foster a community of artists who seek the well-being of each other. She reminds artists and non-creatives alike that artists are integral to society, that their paths through life are varied, rich and important. As Louden points out, contrary to stereotypes, artists aren’t hidden away working, they are on the front lines of education, the nonprofit sector and corporate environments where they provide measurable and innovative outcomes.
Please join us for what will be an inspiring, uplifting and stimulating talk. This event is hosted by the UM Art Department and is a part of the Martha Allen Lecture Series on Art. Register here.
Thursday, Oct. 15, from 4 to 6 p.m., Main Quad
Come enjoy the fall weather and meet other environmentally-minded students. This casual social event brings together the Environmental Club, Sustainability Committee, the Environmental Studies Program and anyone else who is interested in the environment. We hope to see you there.
Saturday, Oct. 24, meet at 10 a.m., UMOM
The Mini-ride is designed to accommodate riders of all ages and skill levels. We meet in front of University of Montevallo on Main (UMOM) and bike down to Orr Park. There, we will do as many laps as the group likes and will head to La Conchita’s on Main Street for popsicles — our treat! If you would like to borrow a bike for the ride, contact ValloCycle at email@example.com.
ValloCycle Witch’s Ride
Thursday, Oct. 29, meet at 5:30 p.m., UMOM
The Witch’s Ride is ValloCycle’s glow ride with a spooky twist. Come dressed in a bike-safe costume and decorate your bike with lights. We also have bike lights to lend out for the ride. We meet in front of UMOM, the ride is approximately five miles through town. We stay off of major roads and no one is left behind. We will again end at La Conchita’s for popsicles on us! If you would like to borrow a bike for the ride, contact ValloCycle at firstname.lastname@example.org.
