2018.EcoChallenge.org. October EcoChallenge. Campuses, communities, workplaces

October is Campus Sustainability Month

Join the EcoChallenge, from Oct. 3-24, to celebrate Campus Sustainability Month! In the EcoChallenge competition, each team earns points by committing to sustainable behaviors, promoting the event, inviting friends, checking in daily and engaging in various other tasks. Set up your team in the EcoChallenge to compete against other teams at UM as well as against teams around the nation. Prizes will be awarded at the national level, and the winning team on campus will receive a catered luncheon courtesy of Sustainability@UM.

The competition is open to faculty, staff and students — teams can be an administrative unit, group of friends, academic program, specific class, student interest group, etc. Each individual can only be on one team, so choose wisely! Create an account, then either search for a team and click “Join this team” or start your own team and invite others. Teams are limited to 20 people. The winner will be determined by a combination of total points and points per team member. If you have any questions, contact Dr. Susan Caplow and good luck!”

Faculty volunteers are needed to teach 30 minutes of their favorite class to these students. Please share your exciting content with these students and receive a free cupcake! Those interested in volunteering or learning more should email JiJi Davis.

Life Raft Debate Panelists Needed

The Life Raft Debate is looking for a few brave souls to serve as panelists, defending their academic discipline at the 21st annual Life Raft Debate on Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. in Palmer Auditorium.

In the debate, we imagine that the world has been nearly annihilated and that humanity can only carry one more person off to found the new world. The panelists argue that their discipline is the one that will best serve the fledgling society to be built. After lively debate and interaction, the audience votes and the winner climbs aboard the Life Raft as the losers, well, lose and drown. To volunteer to be a panelist or to nominate someone, please email Michael Patton.
