UM Student-athletes Earn Conference Academic Honors

The Gulf South Conference recently announced its winter academic awards. The University of Montevallo placed 46 student-athletes on the academic honor roll, while also having three All-Academic Team selections. The Falcons placed the third most athletes on the honor roll out of the entire conference.

Inclusion on the GSC Academic Honor Roll requires an overall GPA of 3.0 or better. To land on the All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant contributor, at least a sophomore and own a 3.20 or better GPA.

The three Falcons named to the All-Academic Team are women’s basketball player Shyan Flack along with Joe Leventry and Taylor Gonzales from track and field. Read more.

Library Services

Although the library building is closed, library services are going strong. Library databases are remotely accessible to all members of the UM community, live chat assistance is available during library hours and the interlibrary loan service is up and running (digital materials only for now). For more information, please visit the Library Resources for Instructional Continuity page. While you’re there, check out the “Free Online Resources” tab!

New Self-Service Password Reset Functionality

IS&T recently rolled out a new Office365 feature. Self-Service Password Reset will make it easier than ever for you to recover your password if you ever forget it or get locked out. You will be able to reset, unlock or change your password with the added security of having an extra verification method, all without having to contact the Solution Center. IS&T’s hope is that this functionality will make your day easier when you have issues with your passwords. Be on the lookout for an email that will tell you when you can start using this functionality and how to set up your account.

Summer 2020 Important Deadlines and Information

Important information regarding upcoming deadlines can be found on the Cashier’s Office webpage.

Vote for Montevallo Alumni in GSC Virtual Competition

As a celebration of the accomplishments of student-athletes and institutions in the Gulf South Conference, the conference office has put together a bracket featuring 32 of the most impressive, potentially unbreakable, records in league history. Two University of Montevallo alumni are featured in the competition. Darbi Duke set a record with six stolen bases in a single game in the sport of softball. Jonathan Maloney scored a record 24 game-winning goals in his career in the sport of men’s soccer.

All voting will take place on Twitter. Voting begins Monday, April 13. Visit the GSC website for additional information.

Faculty/Staff Highlights

Dr. Raymond Ozley, associate professor of communication studies, has been selected by his peers to receive the University’s 2020 Faculty Service Award for his impact on and off campus. The Faculty Senate selected Ozley to receive the award, which will be presented during Founders’ Day in October. The award recognizes a faculty member who consistently commits time outside of the classroom to serve the University of Montevallo and the local community.

Dr. Catherine Walsh, assistant professor of art history, participated in the Virtual Day of Digital Learning organized by the Digital and Multimedia Committee of the Renaissance Society of America on April 5. The workshop was convened via video conference. Walsh co-led the session “Data Organization and Visualization for Beginners,” and delivered a presentation, “Mapping Sculpture, 2015-2020,” on her digital mapping project.
