Participation in Erasmus+

In the end of December the UK Government announced the decision not to take part in the new Erasmus+ programme in 2021-2027. It was also announced that a new programme, the Turing Scheme, will replace the UK’s participation in Erasmus+, which will provide funding for placements and exchanges starting in September 2021. The new scheme will be administered by the same partnership of British Council and Ecorys which has been delivering Erasmus+ in the UK for a number of years.

The UK continues to participate fully in the Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps 2014-2020 programmes and projects successfully bid for during these programmes will continue to receive EU funding for the full duration of the project.

For further information please visit the website of the Erasmus+ UK National Agency.

Participation in Horizon Europe

Horizon Europe is the EU’s next research and innovation programme which succeeds Horizon 2020 and will run between 2021-2027. The UK will participate in this programme as an Associated Country, therefore Welsh researchers, businesses and other organisations will have access to all pillars of Horizon Europe on the same terms as EU member states. Legislation to formalise the UK Association is expected to be approved in March.

The Work Programmes setting out the funding opportunities for the first two years will be published by April 2021, however, draft Work Programmes are already circulating online and the European Research Council has launched the first calls for proposals.

Grant funding via SCoRE Cymru remains available to Welsh organisations to facilitate engagement in Horizon Europe.

For further information, advice and support on Horizon Europe please contact the UK National Contact Point network and the Welsh Government Horizon Europe Unit. (HorizonEurope@gov.wales)
