Anniversary Trail, improving connectivity at Toorak Road

Off to the east of Yarra but extremely important for shared trails connectivity: VicRoads have a survey for four options for the Anniversary/Outer Circle Trail crossing of Toorak Road between Summerhill and Lithgow/Highfield Roads

Survey closes Friday 28 October - fill in the Anniversary/Outer Circle Trail survey here: https://engage.vic.gov.au/anniversary-trail

Of the options, Option 4, the bridge, is the only one that

  • Provides a safe direct Anniversary Trail crossing without impacting traffic,
  • Eliminates the dangerous crossing at Summerhill Road,
  • Doesn't contribute to tram delays,
  • Eliminates the very steep climb/decent through the car park north of Toorak Road,
  • Removes conflict between bikes and businesses in the Hartwell shopping centre,
  • Provides a safe route for local children to ride and walk to school.

Walmer Street Bridge works and possible replacement?

Boroondara Council work on the northern land bridge continues but whatever happened to a new Walmer Street bridge crossing the Yarra between Abbotsford and Kew?

You may recall the Walmer Street Bridge Coalition community campaign a few years back which was stymied by heritage listing of the existing bridge structure. Currently City of Boroondara are building a new northern land bridge approach to the old bridge and the recently adopted Boroondara Bicycle Strategy makes mention of advocating for a new river connection in the area

Yarra Bicycle Users Group welcomes support from candidates standing in the 2022 State Election to get this important connection planned, funded then built for all users - as calls for a Walmer Street Bridge replacement go back to the 1990s.
