519 tons of CO2 spared: ZeEUS

contribution to greening public transport assets
Dear readers,
The public transport sector is committed to tackling climate change through the UITP Declaration on Climate Leadership. Its proactive mobilisation is already having a significant impact on the ground. We are very proud that ZeEUS is part of the 350 pledges to actions, hence contributing to greening the public transport assets. With the gradual deployment of ZeEUS buses throughout the 10 Demonstration cities, from 2 in 2014 to 45 ebuses in 2016, the ZeEUS project has already reached 597,161km served in pure electric mode, 226,921 litres of diesel spared (assuming 38l/100km) corresponding to 519 tons of CO2 emissions spared (assuming ISO 16258 factor for Diesel and GaBi factor for EU electricity grid mix 2014).
This is an impressive result and the Consortium is continuing its efforts to support a further deployment of the electric buses. The release of the ZeEUS eBus Report proves that electric bus deployment is becoming a reality in Europe. Following a request from the European Commission, the ZeEUS partners are currently in preparation for a possible project extension beyond the completion date initially set for April 2017. Such perspective is welcome given the growing interest about electrification and the necessity to release high quality results from the project, which can be of use for all public transport stakeholders. ZeEUS partners are working hard to deliver the outcomes of the project and look forward to sharing these results with you.
We wish you all a pleasant and quiet journey through the latest ZeEUS news!

ZeEUS Project Coordinator

CTM has the objective to develop sustainable technologies and innovative solutions, which can be applied to public transport. Cagliari is actually the only Italian city chosen among the European cities to test the ZeEUS project.

With the participation at the ZeEUS project, CTM wants to analyse in depth the different issues linked to the use of the new 12-metre trolleybuses with electric traction with electric engine. The CTM fleet will have 2 SolarisTrollino ZEV (full electric bacteries), 10 Kiepe Van Hool A330T and 4 Kiepe Van Hool A330T (full electric bacteries), besides the 16 trolleybuses SolarisTrollino bought in 2012 and already working on lines 5 – 30 and 31. By doing so, CTM will have 32 trolleybuses, the youngest fleet in Italy and amongst the youngest in Europe.
