SANDY DANCKWERTS Advertising, Media & Events Co-ordinator
Greetings to you all, Members & Friends,
The Sanlam Cancer Challenge that was scheduled to happen last Saturday has been postponed until Saturday the 8th of August due to the weather we had on our Coastline and in our province last weekend!!
Please contact the PRO Shop for more information or for further details.
This year Sanlam has embarked on a campaign that will create an experience that will encourage participants to be proactive against cancer in terms of self – examinations, self -tests and relevant medical check-ups. They want golfers to get proactive about testing for cancer. In other words, they want them to get “hands-on” when it comes to early detection. For this purpose they will supply each Sanlam Cancer Challenge participant playing in the Club Competition steps that they can take to check yourself for two of South Africa’s most common cancers namely breast cancer and testicular cancer.
The main objective of this Sanlam Cancer Challenge that will be hosted at our Club is to raise funds and create awareness in the fight against cancer.
Thanks to Sanlam for being the sponsor for this competition!! See you all on the field on the 8th of August . . .

Déjà vu on the Rugby field…...
Thanks to our friends from Eskom I was spared the nerve racking experience of seeing the last 30 min of Saturdays Springbok Vs All Blacks game live……Viva Loadsheddding Viva…..
Thanks to Twitter and a fully charged iPad I was able to be part of the emotionally charged last part of the game. A very interesting experience seeing how other people viewed the unfolding drama of seeing the Boks pipped at the post a second week in a row.
With impeccable time that only could happen in Africa my electricity was restored as the delayed broadcast of the second half started on one of the Supersport channels.
From my Twitter and viewing experience here is my take on the game…….
More Positives than Negatives
The Bok scrum dominated for most of the game, much like last week. But unlike last week, it was not our substitutions that swung the balance to the All Blacks, but a strange decision by the ref. French referee Jerome Garces called for uncontested scrums midway through the second half, with both Bok tighthead (Jannie du Plessis and Vincent Koch) off injured. Trevor Nyakane, who can play both loosehead and tighthead, but he was not a designated tighthead for the Test - which prompted Garces to make a technical, albeit, correct decision. It would seem that once again the Boks were on the wrong end of a technical decision.
The midfield synergy of Kriel and Damian De Allende - they gave old All Black maestros Ma’a Nonu and Conrad Smith plenty of bother - complicates Coach Heyneke Meyer’s intention to bring Jean de Villiers back into the frame.
The big area of concern is still our inability to kick intelligently, with Pollard still to find good form or touch most of the time and Pienaar with his aimless box kicks that nobody follows up we are giving away our possession. Then we still need to develop that killer instinct and the ability to take points when we get the opportunities.
With this the Boks out of this year’s Rugby Championship the coaching staff and team can concentrate on the RWC 2015 in the remaining few games. I trust they have identified the area that needs work and what needs to be done. I believe that the mood amongst the players is good and I remain positive that we will bring home the William Webb Ellis.
Let’s get behind the team and join the RWC 2015 campaign…. #HomeGroundAdvantage “Home Advantage – Anywhere in the world”
Many thanks to Denis Venter for his most valued Rugby Report each week!!
