SANDY DANCKWERTS Advertising, Media & Events Co-ordinator
Greetings to you all, Members & Friends . . .
With our Restoration Cup Weekend behind us, and all the wonderful weekend activities that supported it, I am sure you are all eager to see the many photo's that I took over the weekend. For the photo's that are not in this newsletter please go to our Facebook or web page to view more.
Many thanks to Halfway Toyota for being our Main Sponsor for this event, and also thanks to all the other businesses who sponsored tees & greens and flew their flags over the weekend. It was a great weekend and without all of your much needed sponsorship this weekend this event could never have been as successful as it was. Thanks very much!!
Our next Centenary event on the calendar for this year is our Centenary Dinner which is to be held on the evening of the 13th of June. Tickets are limited so please go and purchase your tickets from our Club reception as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. There is a delicious 3 course meal being prepared for the evening by Saffron Chefs together with various awards for the evening as well so don't miss out on this one . . .
Many thanks to everyone for attending the Club Members Draw last Friday evening. Sadly no winner again for the week so the jackpot will be R1400 for this coming week so hope to see you all there!!
Any patron that supports our Club on a Friday night can enter into our Bar Lucky Draws and can win so please invite your family and friends to join us!!
PLEASE NOTE - You have to be present at the Club to win these prizes if your name is drawn!!
If there is anyone out there that would like to contribute towards our Lucky Draw prizes for Friday night and sponsor a prize please could you contact me. Our Friday evenings are quite festive at the moment with lots of support from the Members and also the local community so additional prizes would be great to add to the fun!!
I also advertise and promote your business as well in recognition of your contribution towards the prize evening, so it is well worth it to be a part of our Friday evening Fun!!
Winners for last Friday were . . .
Our Winner for this weeks R100 Meal Voucher sponsored by Schooners Restaurant was Ewald Ziervogel.
Winner of our Bells Whiskey Lucky Draw this week went to Lise Sadler. Many thanks to Tails Up - Port Shepstone.

A big thanks to all of you who supported the Club on Friday evening. It was a good party and a good start to the Restoration Cup festivities!!
A big thanks also go to our DJ "Stoppy" who once again gave of his time generously to play music for us.
Saturday we welcomed in Day One of the 2 day tournament - The Halfway Toyota Restoration Cup.
With a good turnout of players in the field, and a great bunch of visitors who joined in from afar, 50 in total, including the Snymans and the Van Wyks from PMB and also Clive Horlock who travelled up from Cape St Francis to be with us - we did indeed have a good turnout and wonderful competition. Thanks to all of you who supported!!
As always a competition like this would never have been possible without the help of so many Members and Staff who assisted in getting "the show" on the road. To the Ladies Section headed by Cilla Lindsay (Our Ladies Golf Captain) Juliana Ziervogel and Charles & Jen Hulley thanks so much for your enormous input, contribution and dedication that you gave of yourselves for our Club.
To Carrie Pieterse (Our Club Manager) and her wonderful team of staff who worked tirelessly in assisting with the organising and for "behind the scenes" co-ordination and to Saffron Chefs for making sure no one was left hungry - a thank you to all of you.
Once again we can be proud of our Club and for the many visitors and patrons alike who supported us this weekend. Our course is looking fantastic thanks to Jesse Verster and his staff, and everyone did a fine job this year to commerate this 54th running of the Restoration Cup.
We also had a good turnout of Bowlers on the Sunday and I believe the Squash tournament went off also extremely well..
An extremely big thank you to Halfway Toyota for being our Main Sponsor for the event. A tournament like this adds tremendous value into our Community and also into our Club, and for this we as a team at the Port Shepstone Country Club are truly grateful.
Saturday evening music we had Ian Jones performing LIVE at our Club for us and everyone had a fabulous party!!!!! Many thanks Ian Jones!!
Please see some social pics of the evening below . . .
It was so nice to see Clive Horlock who travelled up from Cape St Francis to attend our tournament. Clive, a former resident from our Coast (seen third from the left) is seen here celebrating with friends (from left) Jimmy Parsons, Cilla Lindsay and Anne Parsons.

The Sharks vs Waratahs rugby report from the Weekend is as follows . . . Supplied by Denis Venter from Kidz Mini Mag and OSA Creative Marketing.
Hoffmann The Horrible…….
It would seem that 2015 Super Rugby is a season of bizarre, weird but unfortunately not that much wonderful rugby for us Shark supporters. With Saturdays game against the Waratahs proving no exceptions…..
The game did not have the best start with the Waratahs getting a try in the first minute, but the Sharks returned right back with some attacking rugby and used the backline to move the ball down field. Unfortunately Mvovo loses the ball from a kick.
Both teams were quite evenly matched with the defence being severely tested on both sides.
The deciding factor was the ref and TMO, as it would seem they had an intense dislike for the Sharks. As the game progressed some of the decisions became harder to believe.
In the 51 min the Waratahs got a 5m line out…set up a maul…ran it down the line and crashed over the line into a pile of Sharks and Waratahs players….. TMO time again to see if the ball was grounded….TMO awards the try…..From the replays it can clearly be seen that the ball was grounded on a Sharks player’s leg…..
With Sharks missing out on a try in the corner while trailing 26-18 only for the video referee to rule that winger Sibusiso Sithole's knee had come in contact with the sideline in the process of diving over to score.
You know something is a bit strange when Kiwi and Aussie former player & coaches have this to say about the ref……Former All Black coach John Mitchell pointed out in the SuperSport studio post-match that “Hoffmann's management of the tackle, ruck and offside line was woeful, and that he talks too much, while former Wallaby wing David Campese described his performance as a “joke”.”
Final Score Waratahs 33 (13) Sharks 18 (6)
Tries - A.Ashley-Cooper, T.Naiyaravoro, B.Foley
Pen - M.Foley 4
Con - M.Foley 3
Friday the boys take on the Reds in Brisbane at 11:40 local time.
As always… We are Black…..We are White….. We are dynamite…..
MUSIC - SUNDAY HOSTED BY DAVE MARKS!!!
By popular demand, the young Jade Green from 1.30pm entertained the crowds with Jim, John & David rocking the afternoon away too as well. A delightful variety of music with crowds roaring in the Centre Court while they were awaiting the Golf & Bowls prize giving to start. Many thanks to all who supported the Club on Sunday and for those of you who graciously supported the hat when it was passed around.
See some social pics of Sunday below. The other pics can be viewed on our Facebook page . . .
News from our Bowlers on Sunday . . .
A most enjoyable Restoration Day Competition was also held for the Bowlers at the club on Sunday and this was very well supported with about 50 bowlers adding to the team numbers.
The bowls competition took the format of 2 games of mixed trips played in the morning. The winners of the event were Kieran Dacey playing with Sharolyn Dacey and Steve O’Moore.
Ron Weddell playing with Anne and John Gibson were the runners-up and Bez Bezuidenhout had Danie and Annetjie Human with Baba Bezuidenhout as his team. Alan Booth was the lucky winner of the generous hamper donated by Halfway Toyota.
See some bowling pics of the day below. The others can be viewed on our Facebook page . . .
And of course we all know how our Bowlers love to party!!!!!
With the prize giving and formalities over and with Kevin & Lesley Lancaster back from their holiday in States . . . it was indeed a very festive Sunday afternoon.
Caroline Harris as usual showed us some of her dancing moves, while we also had some very interesting other antics on stage as well . Special moments making memorable memories of our 2015 Restoration Cup.
This coming Friday the 22nd of May we have Multicrop sponsoring our Business Day Bowls Challenge . . .
Many thanks to Jean Masson from Multicrop for this very kind sponsorship of this competition. I hope all the teams have an awesome game on Friday!!
Multicrop Construction was established in 1983 and has since been involved in Civil & Building projects in KZN & Eastern Cape.
They presently specialize in the Construction of Low Cost Housing for the Department of Human Settlement.
They also pride themselves in providing quality workmanship within projected programs & budgets.
Late Friday afternoon we also have another Wozani Shootout sponsored by Wozani Berg Gasoline and organised by Howard & Wynona Crouch, so please all join us down at the Club and try and see if u can score a hole in one.
Music will be provided by DJ - Rudi Williamson who will be entertaining us for the evening and getting us into the party mood.
Friday evening will indeed be an extremely busy and festive evening down at the Club as this Friday we will be celebrating the dual birthday of Jesse Verster and my daughter, Cavell who will be turning 21. Mmmm . . . Jesse also says he is turning 21 so let us see the party begin!!
I hope you are all bringing your party shoes along!!
The fires will be lit on Friday evening and meat, salads and rolls can be purchased from Saffron Chefs. There will of course be the usual delicious Friday menu as well for those diners that would prefer not to stand around the fire (and get their hair and clothes full of smoke!!) . . . lol
This Sunday we are having a special Tribute to Bob Dylan down at the Club . . .
Another musical anniversary for us to share again. Dave Marks as our host presents "Bob's Birthday Bash 'n Tribute" Sunday May 24, 2015 at our Cub from 1.30pm. Bob celebrates his 75th Birthday... and those who've been influenced by the Bard of Rock 'n Folk 'n Country Blues, are invited to join us for an afternoon of Dylan songs and recordings, from his early work to his Sound Stream weekly Radio Show..
Anybody with a Dylan song or two who wants to 'pull in, plug in 'n play' on the day, must be there by 1pm.
It is advisable to book your table for lunch as I foresee this Sunday being another "sellout" at the Club. Please contact the Club reception to reserve your spot.
Looking forward to seeing all you Bob Dylan fans!!
Just some interesting info . . .
As per the photo below Bob Dylan makes and mends steel gates for his friends.
As part of our Centenary celebrations the Club will be hosting "Caddies Day" on Monday the 25th of May.
