Message from . . .

Advertising, Media & Events Co-ordinator

Greetings to you all, Members & Friends . . .

Another very busy weekend down at our Club beginning on Friday with the Business Day Golf, then the Youthworx Golf Day on Saturday and to end it all of off, our Ladies Club Champs on Sunday.  So much of activity happening down at our Club!!  Many thanks to all of you for your most wonderful support.

Many thanks to Graeme Milligan from Harbour View Spar for kindly sponsoring the Business Day Golf on Friday afternoon for us.  We had 92 players in the field with 45 visitors as well and it was, I believe, a good round of golf that was enjoyed by all!!

Graeme & Taryn Milligan have owned the Harbour View Superspar for almost 2 years now and they are thoroughly enjoying living down on the South Coast. They love the work that they do and have a wonderful 4 year old daughter that is also flourishing at her pre-school and just loves going to work with Dad on Saturdays to pick items from the shelf and place them into her own little trolley. A family driven business by far, that always strives to give the best possible service where possible in our Community, and they would like to thank the people of the South Coast for making Harbour View Superspar their number 1 grocery store.

Friday – 29 May 2015 – Harbour View Spar Business Day Results.

Any patron that supports our Club on a Friday night can enter into our Bar Lucky Draws and can win so please invite your family and friends to join us!!

PLEASE NOTE - You have to be present at the Club to win these prizes if your name is drawn!!

If there is anyone out there that would like to contribute towards our Lucky Draw prizes for Friday night and sponsor a prize please could you contact me.  Our Friday evenings are quite festive at the moment with lots of support from the Members and also the local community so additional prizes would be great to add to the fun!!

I also advertise and promote your business as well in recognition of your contribution towards the prize evening, so it is well worth it to be a part of our Friday evening Fun!!

Winners for last Friday were . . .

A big thanks to all of you who supported the Club on Friday evening.  A bit of a quiet evening socially, but with some added excitement with the Sharks game!! However, it was really great to see our usual supporters of the Lucky Draw that showed up and also to those of you that waited in anticipation for the Club Members Draw.  Thanks for the support . . .

Many thanks also to our DJ "Stoppy" who kept us entertained for the evening with his awesome selection of music as always.  Thanks Pete!!

 A fine Friday it was…….

It’s a bit of sad state of our current season when we as fans are happy that the team won. Even with a mediocre performance.  It was a hard fought win…..with the boys working hard for most of the 80 minutes to eke out a 25-21 win.
Like the rest of the season this was a game filled with errors and not too much to get excited about…..but they did win….
It would so seem that brain farts run in the du Plessis DNA….Jannie got a yellow card for slapping Rebels prop Laurie Weeks behind the head….Weeks then thought he would go one better….and got red carded for retaliating with a few punches of his own…. The fight went to Jannie on points….
The future of the Sharks is starting to look a bit brighter with a few of the boys standing up in these last few games.
First and foremost must be S’bura Sithole, who’s been steadily improving week by week and on Friday night put in a truly excellent performance. With his incredible strength to power ratio he is showing that it’s not always bulk that powers through the opposition. Friday night watching S’bura reminded me of our own South Coast boy Trevor Halstead when he powered over the line with a few defenders hanging on his back. With Khaya Majola being a real work horse he ensured we stole a good number of balls in the loose, had a great tackle count and very few individual errors.
In these darker days, the Sharks future is still looking bright with some great young talent coming through. I think we could be in for a great Currie Cup.
Cell C Sharks: 25 (10)
Tries: S'bura Sithole, Lwazi Mvovo, Heimar Williams
Conversions: Lionel Cronje (2)
Penalties: Lionel Cronje (2)
Rebels: 21 (7)
Tries: Scott Higginbotham (2), Bryce Hegarty
Conversions: Jack Debreczeni (3)
In other news from the Shark Tank.

  • The du Plessis brother are set to join an old friend Mr Jack White at the French club Montpellier after the World Cup…. This should be interesting….White is big on player discipline and the Brothers are not…..
  • The Sharks have suffered another blow as Stephan Lewies and Frans Steyn will both miss the rest of the Super Rugby season due to injury. Both need surgery that will rule them out for an extended period. The Sharks duo suffered their injuries playing in Brisbane last week against the Reds.
  • The Beast is mentoring a young and up and coming Beast in training…. Mpumelelo ‘Beast’ Xego, a talented youngster from the Eastern Cape. Beast Mark 1 has taken Mpumelelo under his wing and is mentoring him as he grows as a man and as a rugby player. Through his own apparel sponsors ASICS, Mtawarira has arranged for Mpumelelo to be kitted out with gear in order to give him every chance of aspiring to reach the heights of his own career to eventually represent the Sharks - and the Springboks.

Some "fun" golfing news from Saturday . . .

On Saturday we had a format whereby you could choose your own playing partner.

John Bower (left in pic) "tongue in cheek" asked Jenny Hulley if he could arrange that he play with either Gary Player, Ernie Els or Julia Roberts.

Unfortunately Gary & Ernie were otherwise occupied but Julia was kind enough to make an appearance.

See the fantastic pic below!!!!! My oh My . . . Julia Roberts is indeed looking more and more beautiful these days!!

Some Bowling News . . .

Maureen has recently returned from the SA Nationals played in the Eastern Cape.  She achieved a gold medal in the Fours, a bronze medal in the Pairs and made the final 8 in the Senior Singles.  An amazing achievement!  This, together with her previous 3 gold medals at the Nationals, makes her one of the most accomplished woman bowlers of our district.  Well done Maureen, we are proud of your achievements.

It’s that time of year again… almost a month to go for the much talked about annual South Coast music & art event – the 5th Annual Arts Crafts Folk & Acoustic Music Festival that will take place as usual in the tranquil grounds of the Sanctuary of Love, Melville Beach on Youth Day 16th June 2015 from 10am to 5pm.

The ‘main attractions’ for the festival are kept secret… we’ll let you all know next week. Suffice to say that they will blow the South Coast away on Youth Day June the 16th from 10am to 5pm.
Entrance is by donation . . . and there will be lots to do, eat and drink – stalls and displays of local South Coast craft, from Surfboards to Jewellery, from home-made preserves and cakes to fine art & musical instruments. People are advised to bring umbrella & blankets, for sun or rain, and bring the whole family. There will be lots for the children to do… not only to participate in the music, but there will be an early Puppet Show (9.30am) & Circle Dancing between the music performances. (NO iPads, iPods & the like … please…)

Notice to Arts and Crafts stall holders
– please note: it must be local, preferably hand-craft & art, and no merchandise. Those who wish to book a stall / table can call Kerry-Lee @ >> 083-271-7439 <<; R100 if you book before the end of the month, R150 from the 1st of June – but there are not many more stall-spaces available, so we advise people to call Kerry-Lee ASAP
