May was a good month for me. I compiled all my personal essays about Candy and created a free PDF available for download when someone joins my list. Since you are already on my list, I want you to have access as well. Click here to download your own copy. The more I write, the more I learn to improve my writing, and I spent more time than anticipated editing these. I hope you enjoy reading the "new and improved" versions!

Another big project in May was making everything GDPR compliant. You may have received a flood of emails talking about an updated privacy policy, or asking you to confirm that you wanted to remain on a mailing list. Rather than sending a separate email, I'm adding my information here: click here to read my Privacy Policy; if you want to unsubscribe from this list, the link is at the bottom of this email (and in every email.)

On to more fun things! I am just back from a short camping trip (which is why this newsletter is going out a bit later) and am pleased I got quite a bit of writing done. I have several pieces in progress - some to be posted on my website this summer and one I am submitting for publication - along with continuing research and writing on the Candy book. I find camping trips to be a great change of pace and very relaxing. The normal distractions - computer, phone, chores around the house - are left behind so I can be lazy without any guilt! It is always good to get away, and good to return home.

Until next time,

The most recent essay posted on my website, in case you missed it:

Royal Wedding
As I heard more and more about the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, I remembered another royal wedding 37 years ago, when Lady Diana Spencer and the Prince of Wales were married. Do you remember that wedding? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

I record an audio version of most blog posts for those who prefer to listen. You can find them on Podomatic.

For Reading

Looking for something to read this summer? This list of 88 books gives you a lot to choose from!

And before you say you don't read any of the genres listed, consider reading outside the genre you normally prefer

My dad worked crossword puzzles for years, and last year I started working them as well. They exercise my brain in a different way which I think is good. But a question for me is how are crossword puzzles developed? Read this article to learn more.

I am a big fan of the TV show Pawn Stars, and I love learning about rare books when Rebecca Romney evaluates a book for the shop. I was intrigued when I saw this article by her, talking not about the physical book, but about the portrayal of the bookseller in Raymond Chandler's The Big Sleep. (This is an affiliate link.
