CDS Newsletter Banner
Dear Supporter
In this month's CDS news for September...

If you are not a CDS member then why not get involved!

We are one of the friendliest drama groups around and genuinely welcome new members!
We try to avoid seeing the same faces in every show and seek to actively develop or introduce new talent and support.
We have been successful enough to now be expanding our number and range of productions! So wy not come along and meet us! You could find hidden talents, a new hobby, and new friends besides!
You can sign up to get your own copy of our monthly newsletter, (and optional special interests) or you can simply ask for audience alert emails with show dates and ticket announcements.

Younger Man urgently needed

We still need to cast a role for a younger man in The Browning Version for the performances on 24th-27th October (half term week).

If we can't fill the role we may need to quickly substitute another play...
Anyone able to play a younger man (with appropriate makeup if required) is invited to come along on Thursday evening to meet the cast and director Emma at the White Harte meeting room
  • The key role is  PETER GILBERT – Crocker-Harris’s younger successor and it is about 50 lines.
  • We do have a potential candidate to play MRS GILBERT – New wife of Peter (who has 27 lines) but that role is also open if anyone able to play a corresponding age is interested
It's a classic one act play and the scenes the Glberts are in are quite limited - so rehearsals will be a few evenings and full runs on Sunday Sept 30th and Oct 14th.
Might this suit you, or someone you know?
  • These roles might well suit a student (A level or University) who loves theatre and who woudl  like to work with a group of experienced actors.
  • With focused rehearsals we think the impact on academic work would be minimal, and it will all be over before the end of half-term.
Please pass this on and anyone wanting to know more can either email our director (Emma) or come along this Thursday evening to the White Harte meeting room.

Social Evening - This Wednesday

Our social evenings are usually 8-10pm on the third Wednesday of each month, whenever we are not all busy with an imminent show! But this month we are meeting on the second Wednesday the 12th of September.

Come along to the White Harte that night for some informal drinks and chat, and perhaps discuss what you think we shoudl be doing in 2019...
  • You don’t even need to be a member, so if you are interested in what we do and how, just come along and say hello!

Planning for 2019

Have you seen our website pages for upcoming shows, including auditions, opportunities for writers, and new directors?
We are also seeking proposals for 2019 plays and also including sketch submissions for the February Frolics.
The 2019 theme will be Dinner!
We have at least one classic sketch already suggested, but we welcome proposals (at any stage of readiness) for original or adapted material.
Have you any favourites or comic ideas? Surely there will be room for just one more wafer-thin sketch?

News from Elsewhere

Some great plays are being performed in the local area - you can find those we know about on our website, but coming up this month are
  • Hurst Players present Habeas Corpus by Alan Bennett fromTue 18th to Sat 22nd Sept.
  • Wick Theatre Company present the late Neil Simon's Plaza Suite  from Wed 26th to Sat 29th Sept.
Remember we also list other audition details online as well - and while we will have our fourth Christmas Cabaret with an early seventies theme, panto auditions are coming up at other groups!

Select Your Interests

There is a special Audience Alerts interest category for people who only want emails about upcoming CDS show dates and when tickets go on sale.

But all members and most other subscribers get a monthly newsletter and the occasional extra update, as well as emails for specific interests such as to announce ticket sales, auditions, or requests for particular skill sets.
(The same link is at the end of any email we send you - including this one!)

We have a special category for emails that are only about other nearby societies' events (Non-CDS News), and there is a "Will Consider Anything"  category as a catch all!
