Proudlove Parade Markets injects vibrancy into Thursday Nights in Albany WA

Hundreds of locals, visitors and four-legged friends attended the inaugural Proudlove Parade Night Markets. Located under the trees in the car park, the ambience of the markets breathed vibrancy into the night-time of this precinct. A variety of market stalls from local businesses offering back to school and cooking displays from Harvey Norman, up-cycled, local and home-made items and produce, home-wares and storage, food,  tour operators offering experiences in our region and food vans with a range of choices for your dinner. Green Skills provided a hands-on opportunity to make bath bombs and created a very low waste event.

Local shopkeepers who formed the Proudlove Parade Town Team supporting the markets with Green Skills Albany and the Albany Chamber of Commerce and Industry, including Yak on York, La Botanic, Barlettas Albany and York St IGA offered specials on dinners, pot plants and more. Next week there will be even more specials on offer including workshops in La Botanic !

This all created a busy Thursday Night Shopping experience with vibrancy that filled both Proudlove Parade and lower Stirling Terrace which increased opportunity for all these local businesses to showcase their wares. The markets will operate initially on Thursday nights all through January 2020. You can still book a stall for the upcoming weeks. Contact the Albany office on 9842 1334 or

James Gentle - our Denmark Tip Shop Manager and a volunteer Green Skills Bin Fairy helping market goers sort and bin food organics and waste items correctly during the recent Denmark Markets held on 4th January in Berridge Park Denmark WA. This sorting at the bin has significantly reduced the amount of landfill created by general waste bins that are filled up at the Denmark Markets.
A big THANK YOU to our fantastic bin fairies, and to James for his ongoing commitment to community education to ensure landfill reduction.  James and our Tip Shop team continue to maximize community's reuse of household items through sales at the Denmark Tip Shop.  2019 was a good year at the Tip Shop, lets make 2020 even better!
Keep an eye on the next newsletter for the NOT WASTE 2020 FESTIVAL program, to be held in Denmark in March 2020.  James is building the program using all sorts of magical scraps, and its going to be a cracker!

Green Skills Albany funding success for supporting Community Groups to manage Priority Weeds
Albany natural areas will benefit with the input of $12000 funding that Green Skills Albany was able to secure through Rick Wilson MP’s office. Lake Seppings, Little Grove, Lowlands and The Albany Country Music Club will be supported with Ecojobs teams to remove priority weed infestations in their areas. This is a fantastic result for the volunteers who are tirelessly out there managing weeds as best as they can. However, at times, woody weeds are just too big for hand removal and this is where Ecojobs Albany will step in with the chainsaws and specialist equipment.

It’s another win for the war on weeds!  And Green Skills will continue supporting the weed warriors of Albany in 2020 with a number of weed management programs!
