"We are Fighting for Our Mother Earth"

Brazil’s indigenous peoples are facing fierce attacks on their constitutional rights to land and territory. 30 years of hard-won indigenous policies have been rolled back in just a few short months. 

This is why in the past week, thousands of indigenous people gathered, at the 15th Free Land Camp, to demand the protection of indigenous lives and territories, to stop government setbacks and the violence against indigenous people that directly intensifies as their rights are dismantled. 

Making history: after the first day of mobilizations and open forums the Presidents of the houses of the National Congress in #Brazil promised to act to reverse the provisional Measure 870 and return the FUNAI to the Justice Ministry. This means a more transparent process of land demarcations and independence from the interests of agribusiness
