PhD Opportunity in the Enduring Disability and / or Disadvantage Theme, CLAHRC EoE
 
Application deadline: 16th February 2015

 
Applications are invited for a fully funded 3 year PhD studentship, starting in October, 2015. The successful student will be part of the Enduring Disabilities and/or Disadvantage (EDD) Theme of the CLAHRC: which focusses on research relevant to the needs of children and adults with intellectual disabilities and others who are at risk of mental and/or physical health inequalities.
The range of expertise within the EDD Theme means that there are a number of possible projects that could be developed, involving quantitative, qualitative or mixed methods, and based at, and supervised by, senior academic and clinical academic staff at any of the three participating Universities.

‘Rising Stars public engagement’ training course – applications now open


Applications are now invited from Cambridge University researchers in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences for the Rising Stars course in Public Engagement. The course takes participants through the steps involved in planning, organising and delivering a public engagement activity. By 'public engagement' or 'outreach', we mean engaging 'non-specialists' with your academic discipline.

‘Communication skills for public engagement’ training course for Cambridge University Research Staff and Students

 

Thursday 29th  January


This course will look at the purpose of a presentation and how to choose an effective medium and venue to get a research message across to a public audience. It will be highly interactive, using methods from stand-up comedy, and will give all participants the opportunity to develop, practice and present their own short piece. It is specifically designed for people who are very hesitant about speaking in public.

Outstanding Women of Achievement – Series of events at Lucy Cavendish, Cambridge

To celebrate their 50th Anniversary year in 2015, Lucy Cavendish College are running a series of events from outstanding women of achievement, including Harriet Lamb, CEO of Fairtrade International; Ceri Goddard, Director of Gender at the Young Foundation; and Hazel Thompson, a multi-award winning photojournalist with a passion for human rights.

Workshop on Public Engagement and Animal Research: dispelling myths, being open.

 

Tuesday 24th February

This workshop, led by Dr Bella Williams, Head of Engagement at Understanding Animal Research, outlines the Concordat on Openness on Animal Research and provides advice and practical information on how best to talk about the use of animals in your research including how best to deal with difficult questions from the public, the media and campaigners.

 Homelessness, Social Exclusion & Health Inequalities 2015 “From Margins to Mainstream”- 3rd International Symposium

 

 Wednesday 4th to Thursday 5th March 2015


This 3rd annual symposium hosted by the UK Faculty for Homeless and Inclusion Health’s on health, homelessness and multiple exclusion brings together the latest in evidence and best practice from around health and public services. The symposium is developed by Pathway (the homeless health charity) and the Faculty for Homeless and Inclusion Health with support from the Health Foundation.

Implementation Science Masterclass

 

Monday 1st June to Tuesday 2nd June 2015


This two-day course is going to look at what Implementation Science is, How can implementation science methods help make sure health services routinely offer treatment and care that is informed by the most recent research and What is the best way to plan an implementation science project? The Masterclass includes lectures, group work and guidance to help participants work more effectively on their own implementation projects.
