Health Ecomonics PhD Student blogs about her journey to starting the doctorate

Cristina-Jane Crossman-Barnes tells us how a life-long interest in health, and discovering the link between health and its economic value led her onto a trajectory of Health Economics research. Her PhD focuses on asthma, and she tells of her personal experience influencing her decision to apply for this particular doctorate.

Health Foundation films – The Power of People

The Health Foundation have launched a series of five films that show the power of people in improving healthcare. Stories included are: how the wellbeing of older care home residents is enhanced by making sure they are only prescribed the medicine they really need; and Flo, a simple system which uses text messages to support people to manage their own health and wellbeing.

National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) live webinar about their Fellowship Programme

Tuesday 8 December at 11:00 to 12:00

This webinar is aimed specifically at those who are applying for Round 9 of the NIHR Fellowship programme and those considering applying for Round 10 this time next year.

It will provide guidance on the application process, advice for interview and an opportunity for attendees to have their Fellowship questions answered by Senior Programme Managers at the NIHR Trainees Coordinating Centre.

Improving Physical Health for People with Mental Health Conditions

This conference takes a practical case study based approach to delivering parity of esteem through learning from organisations that have succeeded in addressing the challenge of improving the physical health of people with mental health conditions. Features on the agenda include:

Mentoring Opportunity in our Clinical Academic Psychiatry Training scheme

Are you an academic looking to develop your mentoring skills?

We are looking for senior academics to mentor an ‘academic apprentice’ for a period of either 3 to 6 months, as part of our CLAHRC EoE Clinical Academic Psychiatry Training apprenticeship scheme 2016.

Aiming to build future research capacity in mental health, the scheme will introduce clinical research methodologies to junior doctors training to be psychiatrists. Apprenticeship content is decided by the mentor and could include Clinical research methodology and / or Clinical teaching.
