Merry Christmas to all my constituents!

Dear <<First Name>>

Welcome to my last newsletter of 2019 and my first of the new Parliamentary session after the General Election. It is safe to come out from behind your sofas now – the campaigning is over. No more knocks on the door from very damp canvassers trying to get you to open up after dark and no more soggy leaflets being shredded through those particularly challenging hairy brush letterboxes.
Firstly, a big thank you to everyone who voted in East Worthing & Shoreham and despite the particularly terrible weather on December 12th the turnout in East Worthing & Shoreham was unchanged at 70.69%. A particular thank you to those who voted for me but as I have always said I represent all the residents of East Worthing & Shoreham, however you voted or not and especially if you were too young to vote. I am also grateful to the other candidates in the Election for a respectful and positive if keenly fought campaign.
I will continue to hold my popular Saturday morning street surgeries with local councillors and fortnightly appointment surgeries at 5 different locations around the constituency. The first are drop-ins whilst to book an appointment at the constituency surgeries please ring the Shoreham office on 01273 757182. Details of upcoming dates are given below, and I also intend to step up my series of ‘Talk to Tim’ public meetings around the constituency to make sure everyone can continue to scrutinise my activities on your behalf both locally and at Westminster. With so much legislation coming up and much still to do on Brexit this could also be a good way of heading off even more emails and letters!
Whatever way you voted on Brexit it is clear that most people breathed a sigh of relief that we now have a Government with a clear majority to deliver its programme and we can at last breakthrough the gridlock at Westminster that caused so much frustration, dangerous delay and acrimony. The atmosphere in Parliament has been pretty toxic for some time and it has not shown politicians in their best light. As the Prime Minister has said we must now start the healing process and bring the country back together again and look to the future with optimism.

During the election campaign I released a video a day on a wide range of topics - from electric cars to live animal exports, school funding to Lancing High Street regeneration. These can be found on my Facebook page (click HERE) -
where I also release a 'weekly video' which gives a look ahead the events coming up and what I'll be getting up to in Westminster and the constituency. Please do give me a 'like'!
May I take this opportunity to wish all my constituents a very Happy Christmas and hopefully a peaceful and rather less eventful 2020!

Best wishes

Tim Loughton MP
During the election campaign all the walking around gives us a chance to slim down a bit. Seem to have lost most of it from my legs judging by the picture!

A big thank you to Luke from St Nicolas and St Mary Primary School for his very kind illustration.

I met Luke at a street surgery and was incredibly impressed by his determination to increase recycling at his school but was limited by lack of bins - I was delighted to be able to help and within 24 hours the council were in touch with the school and 5 wheelie bins are now being used in the playground. You can find out more in the St Nicolas and St Mary Newsletter here.
East Worthing and Shoreham Election Result
Swearing In
It was a privilege to be sworn in again as your Member of Parliament for East Worthing and Shoreham.

"Swearing in is the process of making an oath - or a solemn affirmation - of allegiance to the Crown. Members of both the House of Commons and the House of Lords are required to swear in before they can take their seats in Parliament."

Mental Health Website
One issue that didn't feature too heavily in the election but I know is incredibly important to my constituents is that of mental health. One in four of us will suffer from some sort of mental illness at some stage in our lives and one in ten school age children is suffering some form of mental illness - made worse by the pressures of social media. You can watch a video I made on this topic during the recent election campaign HERE.

Earlier this year I set up a website - - which aims to collate resources on mental health nationally and locally, and allows you to give feedback which I can then use to report back to address any shortcomings in the services offered across Adur and Worthing. I hope you find this resource useful, and as always any suggested improvements or comments would be gratefully received.
Adur Chairman’s Carol Concert
After a short rest following election night it was back to work with a street surgery at the Shoreham farmer’s market and on Sunday I was delighted to be one of the readers at the Chairman of Adur Council’s Christmas carol concert hosted by the Lancing Tabernacle Church. Councillor George Barton assembled a rich selection of young local musical talent led by singers Lucy and Libby Ayers, accomplished young violinist Matthew English and the Boundstone Chorus under the lead of Aedan Kerney.
Queen's Speech
I spoke in the debate on the Queen's Speech - my first speech since being re-elected - where I touched on a wide variety of topics, from praising the emphasis given to addressing the climate emergency, boosting and securing NHS spending, levelling up school funding, WASPI women and more.

As I said in the Chamber:

"This is a comprehensive programme for government for the next four to five years, and I very much support it. This is the programme of an ambitious and progressive one nation Conservative Government, of which I am proud to be a supporter. It is a programme to take the United Kingdom forward after these last few dark years of gridlock and division. It is a programme for an optimistic and bright future, and I very much hope that this House rallies behind these measures, because that is the right thing to do for the whole of the United Kingdom."

Eastbrook School Visit
It was a delight to welcome a very enthusiastic and beautifully mannered group of pupils from Eastbrook Primary Academy for a tour around Westminster and a session with the Parliamentary Education Unit. They were a real credit to their school and asked some very challenging questions. I am always keen to host constituents to Parliament where free tours are laid on most weekdays with very well-informed tour guides and every so often I conduct them myself. With Parliament due to be vacated in 5 years or so for a lengthy refurbish I would encourage constituents to get in touch as soon as possible. Simply email me at and we can find a convenient date.
North Lancing Residents Association Christmas Panto
For this year’s ritual theatrical humiliation I was invited to play the part of the heroic Wizard of Oz in the curiously titled Wizard of Boz panto. Always a great event and great fun although I am not sure we will be in line for any Oscars!
