Shukri Ahmed Ali

Shukri Ahmed Ali has become the first Abaarso student admitted to Wellesley College. Shukri spent four years at Abaarso, and one year in Massachusetts through the Program of Academic Exchange. She is now in the middle of a gap year while working for Abaarso as a Program Assistant. Shukri says, "I am planning on studying Astronomy, Neuroscience or Economics... I chose those three, firstly due to my deep passion for science and math, but also for my desire to contribute to the development of my country and the health of my community."

Congratulations, Shukri! You are the first in your family to complete all four years of high school, and now you will be at the most prestigious women's college in the world!

Abaarso is Modernizing
Modernization building

The Abaarso School Modernization Project is underway with $880,000 of funding from USAID/ASHA specifically to support infrastructure improvements around campus. The most prominent addition will be a new fully-equipped science building, with other advancements including the continued rollout of Kindles, fitness facilities, cooking equipment, a stabilization of the electric distribution network, and a solar array. When completed, the new infrastructure will improve our academics, promote health and wellness, and make our campus more efficient and environmentally sustainable. The modernization will improve Abaarso while also moving us towards American accreditation. We are grateful to USAID/ASHA and all our donors for the faith they have put in Abaarso.
