Every year I look forward to February for Dine Around. Dine Around is a month-long event celebrating Nova Scotia’s culinary scene and this year there are over 100 local restaurants offering specially curated menus priced at $10, $20, $30, $40, or $50.

In order to keep everyone feeling safe, restaurants are also offering take-out and delivery options for the first year ever. 


Not sure where to start? Here are my top picks for Dine Around 2021:

 

Top $10 menu:

Portland St Creperie “The Abbey”
Serving up some of the best crepes in the city, I was excited to see Portland St Creperie participating in this year’s Dine Around, and their $10 menu is a collaboration between two of my favourite downtown Dartmouth businesses. Their savoury crepe features pork slow-roasted in coffee from Downtown Dartmouth coffee roaster, Anchored Coffee. 

Pro tip: Looking for something a little lighter? The Bon Matin is my Portland St Creperie go-to.

Stubborn Goat Gastropub - East Coast Pairing Board
Stubborn Goat is always one of my go-tos for Dine Around. Last year, their raclette was one of my favourite Dine Around meals and this year, I’m equally excited to try their East Coast pairing board, which matches some unique menu items with a tasting flight of craft beer.

Bonus Pick for “Most Interesting Menu Item” – Mini Donair Wellington

The Canteen on Portland - Two-Course Meal + Drink!
During COVID-19 The Canteen on Portland transitioned to a community kitchen preparing 400-500 meals per week for distribution. After serving over 10,000 meals to those in need in Downtown Dartmouth during the pandemic, they are back serving diners.

Top Pick for $40 Menu

Elliot & Vine - Three Course Menu
Offering a high-quality European dining experience to Halifax’s North End since 2016, Elliot & Vine’s Dine Around menu (Winter Caesar, Cacio e Pepe pasta, and Chocolate Cheesecake) sounds completely crave-worthy.


Top pick for Valentines Day – Elliot & Vine’s Three-Course Dine Around Menu isn’t available for Valentines Day, instead, they are offering a special prix fixe menu featuring their most beloved dishes on Feb 12th, 13th, and 14th. And for those, dining in on the 12th or 13th will receive a complimentary glass of sparkling wine.

Winter Caesar - Romaine, kale, arugula, asiago, smoked bacon, lemon & peppercorn vinaigrette, grilled garlic sourdough

Dine Around is purposefully held in February, one of the slowest months for restaurants, to draw dinners out of hibernation—and this year more than ever the restaurant industry needs our support.  Show restaurants some love this February in any way you are able, by dining in, taking out, purchasing a gift card, or leaving a positive review online.
